Certainly not just an oil change. There are some rubber dampers and some aluminium plugs in the box itself which were changed, something like connecting plates were changed and a few other bits and bobs as well but it has totally transformed the box. If you want I can have a look at the invoice and let you know what it says was done. I think the guy there is called bob, either that or bill.... Begins with a B! He really, really knows his stuff!

Interesting, what was the box like before?

Mine is rumbling when at a constant speed under 2.5k rpm and occasionally juddering/slipping under light throttle?

Lovely car. I spent around £1500 on my 550i during it's first year; it's easily done 'getting a car to where you want' but worth it.

I really must do a reader's cars for it soon.

It was very jerky on down shifts, especially 2nd to 1st gear in traffic or on kickdown. It was just a generally nasty gearbox. Lovely now though.

Oh, mine can be like that too....but the main problem was the above - so may need what you had plus torque converter I think?

where did you have your work done - recommended?

Mine lightly thuds from 2nd to 1st but it's apparently a characteristic and not actually anything to worry about.

Already mentioned where it was done above smile totally recommended, wouldn't hesitate going back for any gearbox related issues in the future.

Gave the car a wash and a hoover today, and also treated the dash plastics etc to a trim dressing (I use 303 aerospace protectant, doesn't leave a nasty glossy finish)

so some more up-to-date photos (excuse the poor phone camera pics....I must get out the decent camera and take the car somewhere nice for some shots some day!!

Can you get him to remove that M badge in the grill. I know it's standard, it just annoys me so much when I see one (I don't know why, but it looks like the aftermarket badges of old. Have M cars ever had a grill badge before?!).

E65 looking nice and the shape is growing on me.

As you say, the small M6 badge (not just "M") is standard. Yes, M cars have had them in the past. The E30 M3, E24 M6 (in UK this was the M635csi), the E28 and E34 M5s all had badges on the front, it's really nothing new.

Your E65 looks to be in very good condition. The E12 M535i had a grille badge as well.

Sakhir Orange. Really stands out from the dreary black/white/grey/silver of most cars.....the only thing I'm not keen on my car. But buying 2nd hand you can't be too fussy!

If you want more pics of the car just ask, though won't be able to get any more day-time pics until Wednsesday. Interior is the best part about it, it's absolutely fantastic. It's fully loaded (despite not being a competition pack and no ceramic brakes it cost £108k new.....almost every option including the full leather dash which is luuuurvely!)

Gave the barge a bit of a clean earlier - all is well at the moment smile

I recently decided (again!) that I did want a PH sticker on the car but it's just in the corner of the rear screen so much more subtle - to be honest, I doubt it's barely noticeable when driving.

Unfortunately, the wheels (the rears in particular) are in dire need of a refurbishment frown

There are a fair few minor scratches/scuffs but nothing major, when summer comes I'll dig the polishing machine out and give it a proper going-over. Today was just clean the wheels, wash the paint, clean the windows, dress the tyres and put some Gtechniq C2v3 on the paint as a bit of a top up.

It's due a coolant change at the end of August but I will likely get this done a little earlier, and the oil will likely be changed at the same time, it's not "due" for 10k miles but it's done 8k miles already and by the time I get the coolant done it would have done around 10k so I'll just get it done then. Microfilter due same time as oil and as that's a cheap job I'll probably get it all done at once.

I've taken a few people out in it over the last few weeks and it never fails to get positive comments on just how nice a place it is to be in.

You could do the oil changes yourself? Very cheap and easy to do, I do mine on my e38 and change the oil every 6-7k.

I'd bit the bullet and get the wheels refurbed, a good job would probably be £300 ish? I had mine done and I think it makes a big difference to the appearance of the car.

It's a bit petty but I want it to retain full service history. My indy doesn't mind me supplying my own parts and I can get all the parts at trade price.... Just waiting to hear back on prices for oil, coolant, oil filter (bmw official one) and microfilter.

I used to change the oil myself on my E21 but I just can't be bothered these days. I'd also need a new trolley jack as the E65 is a heavy bd and my old jack might not support it. Only rated to 1.25T

I know your feelings on the PH sticker... you want to represent the site and hopefully bump into other PHers or get spotted on the way to work but they do stick out a bit.

You either don't fit one, fit one that sticks out like a sore thumb so you'll get spotted, or fit a subtle one and risk not getting spotted hehe
