Driving from Salisbury to Birmingham on Monday I saw TWO of these, I could not even catch the one heading North on the M5 between Cheltenham and the M42, a steady high 90 must have been consuming a bit of fuel.

Looks lovely. I've always wanted one of these but it seems like buying a decent one is an absolute minefield and I'm scared I'd end up with something with more rust than metal. Also, considering I get 22MPG average from my XJ6 I reckon I'd be into single figures with one of those!

Is that transverse roof spar standard, or is an attempt at keeping the headlining up?

I love the handbrake on the right and lack of sunroof. I'm not a fan of leapers though.

Interesting motor. smile

I was taken on a tour of Husterston B nuclear reactor once, it looked very much like this.

Well done though, it's a lovely, lovely car and much better than the Citroën Visa I had at 20

Just fantastic, well done! I love these but, as other posters have said, the under bonnet picture is frightening! I think I would like a Series 3 XJ12 in a tan or gold colour one day smile

... At 20 I know owning a BL built 1980s V12 Jag is possibly not the wisest decision, but dear god is it nice!

Sounds entirely sensible, top job Sir, I waited until I was 24 before buying a S1 XJ12L, and bar the detonating gearbox it was magnificent.

My Dad was a mechanic by trade, progressing to owning his own workshop.

He had a V12 XJS around 1990. Wonderous thing that was properly cool.

However, it eventually threw a valve and even he, with 20 years experience and 3 other mechanics at his disposal, baulked at opening up that V12 so he sold it on hehe

Top, top effort though. thumbup

Spectacular! A dream car of my yoof - Purdy out of The New Avengers had one from time to time.

Just found on a fan site about the XJS used:
"In the series there were actually two Jags used (you can tell them apart by the fact that one of them has a dent in the passenger-side front wing) as neither of them could relied upon to keep going for very long! In fact BL themselves couldn’t supply a back-up when the first one went wrong and the team had to hire the other from a local dealer!"

Best of British! Huzzah!

I toyed with something silly like this, or a 750i, S600 etc but decided at 21 the image was a bit too old man for me so I got a golf R32. At 23 i'm really starting to fancy a barge with a mahoosive engine! (though the picture of yours terrifies me)
