Hi Finlay

All I can say is Snap!
My Escort LS1 project has just come back from paint - all I need to is bolt it back together again!

Stunning work! What gearbox are you running? I think the LS7 engine uses a 54 toothed wheel if that would help? wink

That's a seriously classy build. Understated enough to not be chavvy but aggressive enough to make a motorsport connection.
The LS motors are incredible for their compactness, power density and durability. It's always a laugh when you speak to an American who says that he had a 700 bhp big block when he was in High School & then you see what a meal the Italians make out of getting 600 bhp by building an engine with no low-down torque, questionable durability & needing race-car revs to do it!

I can see you have your engine further back than me and also maybe lower as you have had to notch the chassis rail you have also used headers. My engine came with headers and yes there were a nightmare to modify around the steering and starter motor. I am just 6 foot and had to cut the diag cage tube behind the seat so I could get it back enough. How low is your sump? as mine is the same level as the cross member - hence it sit a bit higher.
If anyone wants me to do one for them I think I would choose a LHD shell and use standard manifolds!

lol, sounds like we have had the same probz, im 6ft 1" and am thinking about cutting the diagonal bar behind the cage to allow me to get the seat back, i found this fancy starter from the usa that allows you when mounted to the block to rotate it (in theory) 360 degress so the solinoid is at the bottom of the starter rather than the top, this allowed me to run the steering col inbetween the block and headers with reasonable clearence, this was my 3rd attempt at sorting steering lol, yea i cut the chassis rails to allow the down pipes from headers to fit then rebuilt them with 3 mm plate, my x-member sits approx half way up the sump, what ecu are you using ?

cheers

I am using the standard ecu(pcm)with EFIlive software. The engine and box are from a Monaro by the way.

I started modifying my sump by cutting and turning through 180 deg then found a rear sump on the bay. ECU is locked but I can unlock them. I have done mine and a chap who runs one in a grass track car.

awww man, if only id known about ECU, would have saved ££££ !!!! Ben (ex F1 Sparky) at www.crosshillsportsandclassiccars.co.uk , who is doing the rewire for me has had major hastle with my MBE ecu not being calibrated for the LS1 24x trigger wheel, its had to be sent back to MBE sevral times for softwear mods

The standard ecu is fully configurable and is a very very powerful tool. Have you fitted some sort of override for the reverse solenoid? On the same subject I think you have some form of after market shifter - is it not too far back? I modded mine and my engine is further forward than yours.
