MK2 Escort LS1 in orange!
Discussion
Very professional looking build. I suspect not your first.
It's not the 400hp you need to beware of but the 400+ ftlbs of torque. The RS rally Escorts needed revs to get the back out, but you will have about 3 x the torque at 2000 rpm that they had, so great when you want to hoon but be careful booting it out of roundabouts......
I bet it is going to be great fun though.

Update
Car passed its MOT today with flying colours Test station was very pleased to see the car came up on th computer with the correct engine details. Seems Testers are now getting very worried about the come back from testing cars with engines that do not match the log book - something to do with emmissions I think.

If everything is declared to the DVLA and such then it's not an issue but most featured on the above thread are bodged together and would require SVA/IVA or an engineers report at the very least and with no way of tracing the original engine there's no way of know the donor's history or legitimacy. My mate lost his E36 M3 touring because the donor engine was from a stolen car. He was the forth owner since the conversion and as it was him who declared it he was arrested for receiving stolen goods.
Obviously this is not the case here but if an M.O.T tester does not highlight such issues then they could be in trouble themselves if anything brow and sticky hits a fan.
My car is fully declared to my insurance company. I have all the bills for the build of the car. DVLA are also informed of the engine change etc. I have independant engineers reports etc. I used a shell with I.D. that was built for rallying in the early 90s hence does not fall under the latest IVA rules - having said that I have not touched the chassis anyway so would still pass.
All this makes for a car I can drive without worry for the few miles between events and also will make it easier to sell in the future.

Well done. All this makes for a car I can drive without worry for the few miles between events and also will make it easier to sell in the future.
What's next?
We have joint ownership of a MX5 sprint car that has sat outside since its purchase so guess I better give it a coat of looking at!
Then I will be making a start on my rust free MK1 escort. Spec will be to historic rally with a 2.1 pinto, 45s, 4 speed straight cut, LSD etc. All parts in stock just needs Mexico wings fitting and paint - walk in the park!
Then I will do another Mk2 Escort with S2000 engine!

Hence the S2000 dig from one of your mates, earlier in the thread. Then I will be making a start on my rust free MK1 escort. Spec will be to historic rally with a 2.1 pinto, 45s, 4 speed straight cut, LSD etc. All parts in stock just needs Mexico wings fitting and paint - walk in the park!

That's the difference between someone doing it for the love of it and someone trying to make a quick profit. All this makes for a car I can drive without worry for the few miles between events and also will make it easier to sell in the future.
Very well done.
Pop up light MX5's have basically the same engine as a 323 turbo. 300bhp from the parts bin before you mess with the block.

I'm lucky enough to have driven this beast. Early indications suggest that both 1st and 2nd gears are completely unnecessary....
Probably down to the gearing though?I've looked through the thread and can't see diff details? Whats the diff and its ratio?
When my RX-7 got its LS2 (and T56) it still had the 3.91 Mazda diff and quite honestly it was a bit pants; you could pull away in 3rd quite easily. I honestly never used 1st at all, and treated it as a dogleg gearbox, starting in 2nd most of the time and 3rd for comedy value. Top of 5th gear was 120. It was daft and didn't feel that quick as you spent most of your time changing gear.
Putting the Viper (3.07) diff in has transformed the car. Properly spaced-out gears, very long legs, which the car can properly use (ok, the new LS3 helped; 520hp/530lbft). Now does 191mph (on paper) in 5th, and 6th is an overdrive/cruising gear. Its geared for 278mph in 6th! Which makes for great low-revs motorway cruising and giving passable mpg (25 on a run, a bit better than the 8 around town).
Also put the TR6060 gearbox (2010 Camaro onwards I believe) in at the same time; highly recommended, much nicer, lighter and shorter shift than the T56 which I disliked strongly.
Would love to see this Escort in the flesh; looks like a great build. If its anything like the RX-7 then a prod of the throttle in 2nd or 3rd brings the back around in the dry. In the wet; beware!
cheers
Andy
