Cheers guys - my first class win on Sunday! Got from 10th on grid to 6th overall and got first in class on the last lap when I finally took the red X300. It was incredibly slippy, but epic amounts of fun

At Brands at the moment, updating this whilst sat in the van watching a wet qualifying session. Yesterday was a dry race and qualifying, got third in class in both. Great battle for first, second and third. The wet race today should be great fun, I'm looking forward to it. I shall update where I finish tomorrow and the videos also. And a hello to the guy (didn't get your name) who came over and said hello after reading this thread. Cheers
That was me! Got to see most of your race, glad the one on Sunday went well for you too! The car has come on leaps and bounds, so good luck for the rest of the season smile

So Rockingham has been and passed. Concrete boring place, with weird condemned stands which have hardly been used. But the track is qute fun, especially the infield bit and the high stands mean spectators ca see 99% of the track. Saturdays race was a case of getting to grips with the track, was quite processional and I finished 6th overall and 3rd in class.

Sunday came and we had a spot of rain, which I love as I do well in the wet. Video below shows my climb from 6th to 4th, bearing in mind only 11 cars in this race, extremely low turn out. I was able to make up lots of time on the back part of the track and catch the Class C and B cars with more power but on the straights they shot off, although I managed to keep the Class C car of Colin at bay until the end. Still an awesome weekend with great company.

Timing wont allow for many big changes before end of season, especialy not with changes to my business, but the car will be re-wired at some point, new exhaust, power steering removed and a few other bits

Cheers

A good video, thanks for posting it. I enjoy watching the XJ being driven like this with the familiar AJ6 sounds.

I imagine the scope for engine work is quite restricted by class. Are you close to class limits with the car, or is there more that you can do?

My XJ40 is only a 3.2 and though it's not slow by any means, I wonder sometimes if I could perk it up a bit. I have read that a well designed tubular exhaust manifold can unlock some power. Have you found this to be true - and is the improvement a worthwhile percentage on the Jag AJ6 for a normal road car?

Cheers mate

I am very restricted as to what's possible, still need to dyno the car at some point and see what power it makes. To be honest it's weight I need to lose, but it's a case of a little bit everywhere, as I am running out of parts to remove/chop off.

If you can, I'd highly recommend the advance ignition timing bracket, about £70 (can't remember the gentleman's name) but I saw a noticeable different in top end grunt

Been a while since I updated this. Quite a bit has happened, and the car is currently being prepared for 2016 season and a shake down on 26th FEB @ Brands

Finished last season 3rd in Class, had a great time and some great racing. Wanted to see if I can get out this year with a slightly more competitive car. Had the car on the DYNO last year at end of season, made 232bhp. I'm racing against guys with 25-260 so I knew I needed too see if I could free up some more horses

Subsequently the head was removed, for some fettling. Long story short but some halfwit tried to turn the coar over with no head on. Timing chain and ancillaries are lunched! Wasn't happy

Car now has some stripes, to help distinguish it a little more. Not the neatest of jobs, but helps make the car stand out a little. New bumpers have arrived as well (front one had seen better days)

Next is to get the new head back on, engine back together and see how it performs at Brands. New pads, fluid, service and tyres have al been completed too.

Cheers

How much work are you allowed to do to the engine within the regs? It seems like a long way to get with just a bit of fettling.

The stripes should be good for 10bhp I reckon...

Within Class I can only use Jaguar parts, so that's inlet and exhaust manifold, head and bottom end. Capacity has to say the same, camshafts need to be Jaguar parts etc. I will have XJR cams, full exhaust, enlarged throttle body (still retaining original body) and advance the timing slightly. If it makes 250hp I'll be chuffed, hopefully with a strong amount of smooth torque

I don't suppose there's any update on this? It was a brilliant thread.

As a '40 owner myself I'd be interested in updates too!

Shame that you have to use only Jaguar parts as the old cast-iron log manifolds are catastrophic. If memory serves me right the AJ16 XJR manifolds are a little better if they'll fit the ports on the '40. If you need I can check the AJ16 block I've got...
