640d GC 4days in (possibly still the best car in real world)

I genuinely thought PH was about interesting cars and genuine enthusiasts, not diesel saloons for commuting - For clarity:
Lexspace thread = Interesting
This = Not
Having said all that, maybe this is just a sign of the times: With everyone stuck behind 40mph bimblers/asleep at the wheel, maybe this is 'interesting' modern motoring...

...and I'm not carte blanche saying it is better.... my opinion would be based on economics. I'm lucky, I could afford an M6. The 640d became a better prospect as the savings I will make on running costs alone will fund a caterham!

Well is range is better, just because you can afford an M6 doesn't mean you'll be happy filling up all the time. The first is someone saying they have the best car in the world, the 2nd is saying they're very happy with their car which is best suited to them.

And when I read the term "best car in the real world" I think of a car that provides a balance of practicality/affordability/performance/style/comfort/efficiency etc...
A blend of measures that the car covers well without lurching off in any one direction, for me the M6 fails on the efficiency measure. (of course I'd rather have an GC M6 but that doesn't make it a better car "real world")
The term isn't literal rather figurative but many on PH choose to read as such to try and niggle/pull apart the original statement.

The 640d GC does allegedly provide exhaust muzak through the speakers.However the drivetrain does have merit despite the dreaded words - diesel, automatic, and turbo. It's not as sweet as a 6 pot petrol (despite claims about no difference when on the move) but comes with its own rather remarkable straightline agility in real world driving.
