I realise there have been a few of these on the forum lately but I just thought I would share my own. It is a 1993 import G-Limited 2.0 16v.

Bought 2 years ago. It had been left standing for over 2 years and was looking a bit sorry for itself. It was cheap and started first turn of the key (with a replacement battery) and looking past the dirt and grime I could see it had potential. With no tax or MOT it was a bit of a gamble but I figured that in a worst case scenario I could break it and make my money back plus a bit more.

This is how I found it:

A few shots after getting it home:

Changed oil, filter, plugs & leads:

I then gave it a damn good clean, it took a good blast from the pressure washer (I'm not one for detailing sorry). After a t-cut and some polish it came up looking quite nice:

Took it for its MOT a few days later:

... only for it to fail frown but merely on a seized handbrake cable so I was very happy (considering it had stood for so long I was expecting worse). Quickly replaced:

Since then I have replaced the gear cables, clutch master cylinder and interior. Had both bumpers resprayed and have re-furbished the wheels. It now looks like this:

For what was a very cheap car I have grown quite attached to it. I never expected it to be such a fun driving experience and is surprisingly quick considering it is not the turbo model smile

Anyway, thanks for looking

Good work! Amazing what a good clean and polish can do isn't it.

Always had a soft spot for those....

Nice, looks sharp in those last photos! smile

Been looking for a gen3+ one of these for a few months now, they don't come up often.

Excellent! Looking really nice now OP. I love seeing before and after pics with things like this. It's even better when you can get a car for relatively cheap money and a bit of a bargain and then turn it into something the previous owner would be a little bit jealous of!

Great work my friend! Its amazing what can be done to bring paintwork back to life with a bit of time and effort.

My Alfa 156 was found like that - moss growing out of the window seals and interior caked with filth. HAs been very satisfying restoring her to the shape she is in now.

I have a real soft spot for MK2 MR2s having had four over the years. My heart still yearns for another MK2 turbo and I have some on my eBay watch list as we speak.

The two NAs I owned were fantastic too though. Every journey in an MR2 feels like an event somehow! Glad you are enjoying yours.

They are pretty bullet proof and can run on to crazy mileage without much issue, though rust seems to be the biggest problem now that they are all getting a bit long in the tooth.

Keep us posted on developments!

Looks good. I know next to nothing about them, what's the G-Limited all about then?

Thanks all for the kind comments.

Alfa it has done about 110k miles so I should think it has a good few miles left in her smile

I think the G-Limited is just the Japanese branding, the UK equivalent I believe was sold as the GT

Stop it OlberJ lol.

I'm a sucker for an engine conversion, but I've been resisting temptation to do this one lol

Nice colour for it. I nearly bought one last year, but spent more money and got a mk3. I think all MR2s are great and underrated!

I've just sold my Rev 3 NA after a year and a half. It was my second car and I really adored it. Cleaned and polished every other week, spent weekends on my back underneath it, couldn't walk away without turning back etc. They're really special cars, even the cheap ones. And mine sold for more than I paid for it which is nice. I've moved on to a Rev 2 turbo now but my NA will always be special. I genuinely felt sad when it was driven away.

You're clearly doing yours a great service so far, it really shows. Keep it up smile

Looking good! You have exactly the model I'm searching for -- a hardtop, no sunroof, NA... they seem to be very infrequent here in the states.

It'll only be a Jap import gts turbo or g limited that has the proper no sunroof tintop.

Nice rescue you have done there!
I had a red G limited same age as yours - was great fun to drive for little money.
These old Mk2 MR2's are starting to look quite special as they age.

That sad and neglected car is loved once more. Lovely car now, well done.
I had a '93 G-Limited many moons ago when they were still being made, however it was a 94MY with the facelift. I thought it looked way better with a full metal roof unlike the UK cars with either sunroofs or T-tops.

My first MR2 was a 1995 G-Limited (anniversary ed!) and yours looks really good. As others have said you've done a great job cleaning it up.

I was browsing the web earlier and there are some really good late models around for just over £2000. It's very tempting to pick one up as I suspect you could bounce it after summer and lose nothing on it, especially if you add a bit of TLC like you have.

Brilliant rescue/restoration mate. I used to have an MR2 a few years back, they're great fun and have the perfect driving position imo.

They literally don't make cars like that anymore, not ones that I can afford anyway.

Thanks again all.

I've been thinking about replacing it with a turbo model, but as it is only a weekend car I can't really justify it right now.

I need to concentrate on my 205 track car now the weather is changing and track days are upon us. Maybe in the future I will upgrade to either a newer rev 3+ gts or maybe a Celica gt4
