Less weight will give you less traction.
By better mapping I don't mean more power, just a less severe power curve.
I imagine at the minute its nothing > nothing > nothing > OMGBOOST > wheeze > change gear
Mine certainly was, and could definitely have done with a smoother torque curveBy better mapping I don't mean more power, just a less severe power curve.

I had a Cupra 160 TDI, remapped to death. It was fast when on boost, it smoked a lot.
It rode and handled like it was riddled with aids. No car has ever provided such determined understeer with such a lack of compliance to its ride quality.
Also, shifting from 2nd to 1st at the governor will break an engine mount.

This car does not smoke but the exhaust have turned black. Quite surprised as I only had them done on Saturday. From that new silver chrome to black is quite awful. Any ideas on how to get that sparkle back or cleaning tips?
Autosol is great for exhaust tips. Do you really want to bother if it goes black after a couple days though!ILoveCorners said:

There's no point, diesel fumes will produce black smoke so it'll be back to black within a day or too...let it add to the stealth factor!"Please stop me and take my details, officer!" screams the little Polo with the stickers and silly wheels.
No sense is picking on a young enthusiast for being excited by his car. It doubtless feels very fast indeed (because we feel jerk - the rate at which the rate of change in speed is changing). It would probably FEEL slower but be faster if you got a flatter torque curve.
Two things are worth saying, though:
(1) It does not get 77mpg. Something is broken / has been tampered with there!
(2) Removing the back seats will make it handle even worse than it currently does. It is monstrously front heavy as it is, and the weight transfer away from the driven wheels when you hit boost is causing the slip. Also means that it cannot punch out of slow corners without going into a hedge, presumably.
Please be careful going around left-handers. It is the kind of car/driver combo that will easily find itself in the opposite lane and mashing some kids in a car coming the other way.

Just be a bit careful with it. Jack-in-the-box torque curve + not much grip + inexperienced driver could lead to a sudden and unwanted restyling of your PnJ. If you're unlucky, there'll be someone else involved. That's not to say don't have fun, but try and learn to drive around the wheelspin - it'll make you a better (and quicker) driver.
Have to be honest, I've driven an Ibiza with a 1.9 TDI PD130 engine and although quite punchy, it wasn't particularly entertaining. It didn't 'feel' very nice. It was quite well refined, and despite the engine I nearly bought one. However, I would have bought one for logical reasons, not because I really wanted it.
I've recently bought a Polo GTI with the 1.6 twin cam engine. It feel slower than the PD130/TDI but it's just.. nicer. Great to rev, sounds nice, sharp throttle response.
Quality over quantity and all that.
Best regards,
Matt

That`s what its all building up to! My dad has a westfield ztec which he does trackdays in, we are planning to take the polo aswell to donington-park. The plan is to finish the polo first then take it out. The polo has become a second car, I use it on the weekends and soon shows. My dad has recently acquired an audi a8, part of the new company. So I drive his car which is an 07` BMW 320d its much more comfortable to drive in to work as the polo is a bit un practical now. Its boring and normal.

I bet the BMW isnt much slower than the Polo and probably handles better. Strange how subjective people's experiences are!
All I said it was boring and normal in my opinion. Its just a normal car, it handles well and has good acceleration all round good car. Its a good work horse. Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
