Great story and beautiful machine - so chuffed you ended up with the history back with the car. As I have been in and out of Frost's since the 90's with various Loti, I probably saw that when it was the demo!!

Enjoy it.

Great story, thanks.

Considering the dedication you've shown in getting hold of the history file, I think you'll be fine tracking down parts for the car when required!

Sounds like a great buy tbh, have fun!

Amazing story, love it, and what an awesome car!!

I know very little about the LC really, did they all come with cream door panels? I quite like them in a 90's kinda way, just wondered why they weren't black like the rest of the car.

Hey Matt its me that viewed this car a few months ago, I also got in touch with Mr H and offered to buy the history and give him his H14 ### number plate back, sadly he was still angry with the dealer who he traded the car in with as they did tuck him up on the deal, I see a few people commented that he was out of order selling the history but I did understand his reasons for keeping it, he was adamant it was going to go legal, incidentally the grief was not with the selling dealer who you bought the car from as he ended up with the car through an exchange of vehicles with the initial dealer, I did feel sorry for Mike who you bought the car from as he is a very genuine guy, he did ask me if he could pass my number on to you for a chat before you made the journey, you didn't ring me but I did agree to it.......honest !!

Matt, I would like to say this, I would have bought this car 100% had I been lucky enough to extract the history but Mr H was having none of it, quite understandably, so with one potential buyer now out of the loop & some months later he may have realised he was flogging a dead horse and decided to let the history go as technically he is sat on a worthless pile of paperwork and holding the car to ransome, so I hope my involvement had some bearing on his thought process which in turn helped you secure said history. For what it's worth I looked at 6 Lotus Carltons across the country in the flesh, 1 from photographs and 1 was viewed on my behalf by 2 Autobahnstormers members who buy the way are helpful beyond belief, H14 was by far the best in my £15k to £20k budget, the boot floor & wheel wells a common LC problem area are perfect, interior is superb, as you say 1 rear arch needs looking at but nothing like as bad as others, so for the money you have bagged yourself a peach, a couple of cosmetic touch ups here & there and you are easily sat on a £20k + car especially when you see what is out there for £15k, like all rare cars these have moved on price wise & H14 definitely sits in the next £ bracket, I'm sure you will enjoy the car, I just wanted to reiterate what a gem you have bought and ask those that weren't happy about Mr H holding on to the history to not be too hard on him, he really did have good reason, you can't knock a man with morals !

For those interested, I have gone away from the LC idea as to spend £20k + which is what I would have to part with for a car to my standard I would have to part with my standard 1 previous owner Sapphire Cosworth, I can't bring myself to do this so I have stuck with my first love old Fords and bought a mint 47k mile Capri 280 Brooklands, not quite a Lotus Carlton but it is green lol.

Hope you haven't all glazed over,

All the best,

Sean.

P.S. I thought a 760 was a Volvo.................I'll get my coat !
You have got to do a thread on that Capri.

Envious to death. A car I always hoped I could afford to own- as in my profile.

Sadly the closest I got was the "cooking" 3L GSi (12v at that!) Enjoy it & make the most of it.

Close, £711.

Because that is exactly what the repair to Mr H's 911 cost.

Interesting story, well worth doing the groundwork to secure such a good example. I remember you saying you always wanted one.

Who remembers this story, I remember hoping that I would see it fly past being chased by a helicopter!

You should be able to see where the usage is highest - statistics in photobucket - my bet is PH and your LC pics
You used to be able to, but they broke that bit some years back and still haven't fixed it, good old PB.

Superb car and a cracking bit of detective work. It's nice to see there are still people out there happy to help other enthusiasts.
Shame about the circumstances that Mr H was left in but at least he should be 99% happy now.

Top story and Happy motoring.

This sounds just like something i'd do. I know just how painful it is searching for someone or something and eventually getting through; great feeling at the end.

You've done well there, mate - now go and surprise some people!
