Close, £711.
Because that is exactly what the repair to Mr H's 911 cost.
That is a bargain and whilst I don't like the fact that the PO "sold" the history I'm pleased it was re-united with the car and that you managed to get a deal doneBecause that is exactly what the repair to Mr H's 911 cost.
Looks very good in the pictures but I'm more interested in making sure the nitty gritty stuff is all OK
Good read this. Only ever seen two of these, both that same colour. One in Cleeve Motor Salvage with a huge dent around the B-Post as though it had been sideways heavily into a tree. Doubt that car was repaired but you never know.
Loved reading this thread.
I still remember the first time I saw a Lotus Carlton on the road, my Dad pointed it out to me as I didn't have a clue what one was. He went on to explain and I have wanted one ever since. I don't think I have seen one on the road since.
Look forward to future updates

Do like these, my uncle has one tucked up as part of a collection, never had a go in it as it was laid up and blocked up by several other cars. Only got to drive his Clio V6
As a kid my dad bought me a book, the collins book of cars 1992 or something, the Lotus Carlton was in it and I always remember it as a stand out car in there, something so normal looking with a crazy engine! It was easily amongst the fastest cars in this book.

My FIL had a LC from new and put 70,000 miles on it as a daily driver. He sold it about 6-7yrs ago, but still raves about it now anytime we get talking about performance cars. Your uncles collection looks interesting, think it might deserve its own thread! Although he could have cleaned the wheels before parking it up!

Dumb question; how can one tell?
Small "Phase 1" Carlton front indicators. I think its something like the first 25 ish LC/LO's had these along with a few other minor differences to the normal "facelift" cars.Agree it would look better with the proper badge on the bonnet (of which there are early and late Vaux ones also).

I was thinking last night though, if ever the engine went bang should I rebuild (not easy), or modernise with a 'LS'? Hopefully that won't happen at all. But twas just an idle thought.
LC engines don't have a habit of going bang, in that respect totally bomb proof. In fact I have never heard of one "going bang", ever. Some blocks can have oil/water issues. These engines are easy to rebuild however providing you can get the bits you need. Here's an LO rep (I believe) with an LS engine though but to do that to a real LC is IMO a complete waste of time/effort and money.
