This is such a brilliant story! Thank you for sharing it in its entirety, you have hd my wife and I in absolute stitches over knocking down the kitchen wall for the garage expansion project.

It sounds like this could well end up being a perfect example in time. Keep going!!! Many, many people dream of owning cars with such greatness, I just hope occasionally it gets a strong blast along a motorway or two (once prepared correctly).

Bravo!!

Well, I flushed through the chargecooler system, rebuilt numerous vac lines, and got the heaters working. Plus of course
The purist may not be keen on having a custom exhaust made, but stainless makes sense, and we're keeping cats in the system. The cat flaps, are being removed.

I have a full custom stainless exhaust on mine, needed some fettling with the hangers to get it to fit snugly underneath though.

Been there a while and "spotted" by quite a few over the years.

What a shame, I hope someone saves it. Very near me - I wonder if its still there?
Don't wonder, go look...
Edd and Mike need this on Wheeler Dealers, is there not a hotline you can ring when you see cars such as this in a state.

How very dare you posting an update on the car without having photos to hand already!

Love the project - good luck finding a decent body shop, glad its all being done properly.

For a bodyshop, Mike Harris at Westgate is superb.

it's absurd that the owners prefer it infront of their house doing absolutely nothing than several thousand pounds

Great reading. I have always loved the LC and nearly bought one back in 1998.. in the end, I came away with another childhood dream, a TVR 400SE. I dont regret my decision, as ive had 15 years of roof down, wind and rain hooning, however when I think that teh residual value of my TVR is now £6-8k and if I had spent the £23k on a LC, it would have been worth a hell of a lot more.

Fantastic car you have, I remember my test drive with fondness and kick myself whenever I see a LC on the road !

have always thought of these cars as sort of the holy grail. I have zero mechanical knowledge and around the same budget so i can't ever see me owning one so i'll have to accept that drooling on this thread is the closest ill ever get.

remember one time around 1993, i had been away for 6 months from my other half, and we managed to set up a quick meeting where we would have an hour or so together before i would have to go again.

We met in a carpark in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. mixed emotions, we were hugging and i remember saying to her, 'OH WOW... A LOTUS CARLTON...'

i pulled away from the hug and spent the next 15 minutes looking around the car by which time the owner had returned and we had a great geek chat.

Other half was completely frosty with me when i finally returned the attention to her.

never got to empty my sack because of that. And it was totally worth it smile

I remember the launch of the LC at the Geneva Show, we were there on press day +1 when it was first rolled into the hall and onto the stand, quite a stir amongst the chaps there, looked great sitting on its turn table......then I told the shiney suited droid fending off admirers that the direction tyres it had fitted were on the wrong way around, you have never seen a car rolled out and into the transport truck so fast. It was back in a few hours properly booted.

Somewhere in my loft I still have a press release pack for it, but have since dumped all the video we shot I am afraid.

Your uncles collection looks interesting, think it might deserve its own thread! Although he could have cleaned the wheels before parking it up!

That's an early one - Can I ask whats the Build Number
Couldn't tell you much about it I'm afraid, never got much of a look at it, I only had a short time to take some pictures. Its not in the best of condition, certainly not as nice as the one the original poster bought here, it was built to be done up over time I gueess. My uncles collection is pretty random - lots of Jag XJs, Porsche 993, a Clio V6 (the only one he let me drive), a few Audis (including one owned by princess Di and photographed with her on the front page of a daily newspaper), even a couple of old fire engines...! Many cars which will need work to be up to collectors standard but he has the time and means to get them sorted gradually.

Just do what I did a few years ago and buy a 3.0 Vauxhall Carlton 24v on ebay and imagine you've got a Lotus. hehe

ETA - here's one for £800
