have always thought of these cars as sort of the holy grail. I have zero mechanical knowledge and around the same budget so i can't ever see me owning one so i'll have to accept that drooling on this thread is the closest ill ever get.
Just do what I did a few years ago and buy a 3.0 Vauxhall Carlton 24v on ebay and imagine you've got a Lotus. ETA - here's one for £800
'This 1988 car has been dry stored and needs some recommissioning and restoration'
and all the pictures are outside with it soaking wet.
LOL!!

the last pic got me thinking. What happens if you break the windscreen? Surely they're not still made.
Windscreens and rear screens aren't an issue yet, if I can still get one for a 1979 Monza it'll be a while before Carlton/Senator B screens are an issueJeez, J831 UPA hasn't been taxed since June 2005, so that has been sitting getting shat on for probably 9+ years.
Edit: There is a pic of J831 UPA on flickr, the uploader says it a scan of a pic "taken in the early 90's" at Goodwood:

Good morning, gents and gentesses.
to answer;
How fast? Dont know, until I have properly gone over her and serviced I will not go past 3500rpm.
I will say though that the shove was certainly akin to my 355. So I suspect she will be 'damn fast'. But like the 355, brutally quick in the nineties, is merely very quick today.
Let us put into context though. She is a quarter of a century old. Driving back my impression was 'this car is Nigel Benn - the Dark Destroyer. Throughout the nineties capable of beating, blugeoning and battering 98% of opponents. Now, well, the young breed are fitter, faster, better conditioned. You do think though, a bit like Rocky Balboa - even now, on its day, when evrrything lines up right - a young pretender could still be dropped on the canvas'
That is how driving this car made me think and feel.
