You still got this car OP?

If so how about a wee update, really enjoyed reading this thread. Fantastic car, a guy who owned the local tyre fitting place had one and it only ever came out the garage on dry summer days, loved seeing (and hearing) it.

@halfway through a £100k (yes, one hundred - I might be declared insane) restoration, and rebuild.

She will, quite literally be back to brand new. Albeit with some of the original rough bits by Lotus fixed along the way

The mission is to create the worlds finest LC.
I REALLY hope you're taking pictures of every single nut & bolt. Could become my favourite thread of all time!

I doff my cap to you sir. That's an insane amount of money, but without people like yourself, these cars don't survive for other generations to see and enjoy, so well played.
Reading this thread makes me massively regret not buying a Carlton GSI 3000 24v for £900 about ten years ago. Nothing better than a big fast saloon in my eyes, and yours is one of the coolest examples.

Incredible, this has to be one of the most 'PistonHeads' cars out there.

Rare as hen's teeth, you won't see many others of these on the road.

Is it a weekend car, show car, investment or daily? Congrats!

Great stuff, must go like the clappers. How thirsty are these? Not that that's a priority of course!

If you are spending a fortune on her then yes use her, she was the fastest saloon car of her time, 377bhp which is still a very good figure in todays performance market, and considering she is over 25 years old, thats bloody good going biggrin

I do love these Lotus Carlton's, go have fun with the old girl wink

I did Norfolk to Milan in one and averaged 32 mpg (that long sixth has an advantage when cruising at speeds over 70 mph)

I did Silverstone and averaged 8mpg (it's a big heavy car and when you use the grunt you pay for it at the pumps)

In general mixed use it averages in the low to mid 20's
That's very impressive on a run, sure I guess being RWD and heavy lump up front it must be nigh on 1700 kg?

I don't see the value of it but I'm glad you're doing it.

Are you staying with stock power?

I'm not one for usually caring about that sort of thing. That's quite impressive. Last time I checked (admittedly some time ago) I was getting same figures from a 2L 4 banger thumbup

You're missing the point.
The value is in keeping this utterly legendary car not only alive but, dare I use the word on this day, resurrected in beautiful form.

It isn't about monetary value.

Yes, power is stock, because the car is deliberately standard. That isn't what it's about.
I'm not missing the point. Obviously it's not about monetary value or you wouldn't be doing it and I also said I'm glad it's happening.

What a cracking fast saloon and very rare. Looking forward to seeing the pictures after the restoration.
