utterly incredible car and story, and actually I quite like that the previous owner sold the history, as every one finished the deal satisfied.

Close, £711.

Because that is exactly what the repair to Mr H's 911 cost.
Bargain.

Great write up. Congrats and nicely done!

Congratulations, looks great clap

I was genuinely smiling reading your right up. There is no better feeling than picking a new car up and that first drive home and wash.

Awesome, awesome, awesome car! biggrin So glad you went for it!

Sometimes you just have have to take risks in life.
"It's the things you didn't do that you'll regret" and all that smile

I myself had been looking at buying an Elise 111S for years and came close a few times.
A few weeks ago took the plunge. I did the research, flew out to the UK, bought one and drove it
back to The Netherlands. Couldn't be happier!

Enjoy your amazing car and keep us posted!

Hey Matt its me that viewed this car a few months ago, I also got in touch with Mr H and offered to buy the history and give him his H14 ### number plate back, sadly he was still angry with the dealer who he traded the car in with as they did tuck him up on the deal, I see a few people commented that he was out of order selling the history but I did understand his reasons for keeping it, he was adamant it was going to go legal, incidentally the grief was not with the selling dealer who you bought the car from as he ended up with the car through an exchange of vehicles with the initial dealer, I did feel sorry for Mike who you bought the car from as he is a very genuine guy, he did ask me if he could pass my number on to you for a chat before you made the journey, you didn't ring me but I did agree to it.......honest !!

Matt, I would like to say this, I would have bought this car 100% had I been lucky enough to extract the history but Mr H was having none of it, quite understandably, so with one potential buyer now out of the loop & some months later he may have realised he was flogging a dead horse and decided to let the history go as technically he is sat on a worthless pile of paperwork and holding the car to ransome, so I hope my involvement had some bearing on his thought process which in turn helped you secure said history. For what it's worth I looked at 6 Lotus Carltons across the country in the flesh, 1 from photographs and 1 was viewed on my behalf by 2 Autobahnstormers members who buy the way are helpful beyond belief, H14 was by far the best in my £15k to £20k budget, the boot floor & wheel wells a common LC problem area are perfect, interior is superb, as you say 1 rear arch needs looking at but nothing like as bad as others, so for the money you have bagged yourself a peach, a couple of cosmetic touch ups here & there and you are easily sat on a £20k + car especially when you see what is out there for £15k, like all rare cars these have moved on price wise & H14 definitely sits in the next £ bracket, I'm sure you will enjoy the car, I just wanted to reiterate what a gem you have bought and ask those that weren't happy about Mr H holding on to the history to not be too hard on him, he really did have good reason, you can't knock a man with morals !

For those interested, I have gone away from the LC idea as to spend £20k + which is what I would have to part with for a car to my standard I would have to part with my standard 1 previous owner Sapphire Cosworth, I can't bring myself to do this so I have stuck with my first love old Fords and bought a mint 47k mile Capri 280 Brooklands, not quite a Lotus Carlton but it is green lol.

Hope you haven't all glazed over,

All the best,

Sean.

P.S. I thought a 760 was a Volvo.................I'll get my coat !

It's fate you own it pal and the papers too!

RESPECT!

LC = my car crush

In the early 90's I was four up in my diamond white series 2 Escort RS Turbo, heading north on the M1 from the motorshow we had all been drooling over the LC on the stand, speed was 3 figs on a clear 3 lanes in the front and rear, when in the rear view mirror (which my eyes were glued to lol) a seemingly black object appeared, we were moving, but it was gaining at a ridiculous rate, I backed off, within seconds an LC pulled level along side, very smart guy with his wife in their 60's , Dave Dickinson tans, he looked over smiled, and pulled in front, we did what you did in your early 20's , grinned, drew level doing 90 leptons , 4 youths shouting " boot it boot it!" After 30 secs he grinned and obliged, the LC was gone off the horizon with 30 secs on a long straight, .........awesome memory and car!

Fesuvious outlined the sorry tale of why Mr H came to still be holding the history to a car he no longer owned. ....lt appears there was a dispute - all now in the past though & Fesuvious seems happy from his post

OP, having just got in the house having just done yet another wasted journey to look at a piece of junk that was described as all things to all men, I am genuinely chuffed for you and reading your story has cheered me up no end!!

Having transferred a considerable sum of money to a chap I had never met, for a car that I had never seen (993 Turbo that wasn't even in the country) I can appreciate the b@lls this type of things takes!! This was ten years ago and luckily the car was perfect and I still have it now!

Well done and enjoy smile
