I love the DRLs on these, in fact the whole car looks pretty good. However that MPG is terrible. My Focus ST (mk3) gets 28mpg in normal driving and about 31-32mpg when trying to be sensible. On a 300m trip the other day I would have got around 40mpg if I wasn't getting bored and decided to speed up a little, I still got 38mpg despite over 30 miles being at the wrong side of 100.

27mpg? That's pretty dire - I drive a 240bhp 2.0T petrol auto Range Rover Evoque, mostly around town and I still manage 25mpg.

Car looks smart though, I did look at one last year but it was too much cash for a new one and there weren't any good lease deals.

I like it, Kia is definitely a brand I'd consider now.

Thanks OP for sharing, I've been following Evo's long term reviews on the car closely, as a car that appeals to head and slightly to heart, whilst being a bit different, it's hard to beat. I'm also surprised at the mpg, my old TT achieved over 36mpg (calculated fill to fill) with 240bhp, and without trying too hard to be economical. Evo claimed 30.1, 30.0, 30.2mpg over the last few months with their C'eed GT, and I doubt that gets driven gently.

Lovely looking thing, my younger brother has had a Rio "3" 1.4 diesel for about 6 months now and every time I drive it i'm imrpressed! Obviously not fast by any means but a good useable amount of grunt for pretty much any normal driving situation, sits at lane three speeds happily too. Kia really are coming up now, i'm fancying a Pro Ceed GT myself, or the really sensible part of me wants the big saloon, Optimus is it?

Sorry for bumping an old thread but has any one else had one of these and got anything else to add to the owner experience of having a Proceed GT? smile

OH and myself are looking at other cars at the moment and these seem to be cropping up on our radar. Wouldn't be a brand new one, probably looking at a 2 or 3 year old model smile

I know its not exactly the most 'PH worthy' car but it looks smart and is relatively fast lol

Yes, to be fair that is a lovely looking car and the colour the OP has chosen looks especially good! thumbup

Not sure about the economy but the OP's journeys are never going to give good economy, and most turbo engines only produce good mpg in test conditions that no owner will ever replicate!

7 year warranty is also a bonus - pretty practical choice with a bit of sparkle. Korean cars have come a long way in the last 10 years or so!

Yes, the situation reminds me how the Japanese went from zeroes to heroes of the car market within approximately 15 years. As a kid we used to laugh at Datsuns up against the might of the Fords and Vauxhalls of the time.... fast forward 40 years and I've owned twice as many Japanese vehicles as anything else!!!

KIa have been sort of sneaking up on the outside in a similar way to the Japanese in the 70s and 80s and all of a sudden they look very good indeed!

I actually registered just to say how surprisingly great that car looks. And equipped with a sensibly powered engine too. Well wear. I recently got a new golf GTD, and I'm seriously impressed with your Kia.

I've owned a black Cee'd GT Tech (2014) since May 2015. Got it with just under 2,000 miles on the clock - it was an Approved Used car with no previous registered keepers, so it was as new. I've done around 7,000 miles in it now and I've had no issues at all so far, touch wood. I've only done one non-cosmetic mod and that's just to replace the stock air filter with a Jetex panel filter to let it breathe easier. Makes a nicer sound inside and out and pulls slightly better when accelerating.

I use mine as a daily driver to commute 15 miles each way to work and back on an A road, and I'm getting around 35-36 MPG in the winter, down from 37 MPG in the summer months. It does drop down to around 33 MPG if I get stuck in some town traffic, but it's never dipped below 30 since I've owned it.

It's plenty fast enough for me. Official figures state 7.4 secs to 60MPH, but in reality it's faster than that once the engine has run in and the ECU let's you use the overboost. It can be done in around 6.6 secs with stock configuration:

https://youtu.be/nPku55s4TXg

The stock exhaust makes quite a nice sound - not bad for a 1.6L anyway:

If anyone wants any more info on what they're like to own, I recommend the owner's club forums and the Facebook page (which I run!):

They both use the same T-GDi engine but the GT version has a higher tune and puts out a bit more power:

I seem to remember reading that they use slightly different turbos too so they hit peak torque at slightly different revs...

I've had one of these now for a little over 2 years. replaced my Focus ST 225 so clearly its not got the same power but has much much more in the way of options etc. things I miss from the ST is the sound mainly when I wanted to have fun the 5 cylinder rumble was great. The GT however is not capable of making a great sounds with a cylinder less and only 1.6 its more of a scream than a rumble, Oh and the orange I miss the orange nearly as much as my son does. The MPG is great however today I've used just over 3/4 of the tank which I filled up last week and I'm currently averaging tank 42.2 MPG this is school holiday time so its less traffic. On the same drive normally I'd be hitting anything from 38-40 MPG over a 30 mile commute with a little slow roads but mainly decent national speed limit areas. This is a mixture of slower driving but I do like to have a bit of fun at times so its by no means a slow granddad drive all the time. In comparison the ST was lucky to hit 28MPG for the same trip.

The sat nav is great no issues there cruise is a must for me now after having it on this, the speed limiter is odd not found a real world use for it yet had a play but cant see why id use it over cruise so far. Heated seats and wheel are great in the winter and the reverse cam seems to works well in all conditions. Only issue with the cam is that if its been a heavy dew or rained while its stationary you can have water droplets over the lens which makes it useless but that's a simple fix of wiping your thumb over it before setting off.

at a little over 200 bhp its not a slow car by any means, however its also not going to set any speed records but it delivers the power when you ask and sure does give people a shock when they either cant keep up or do a double take in their rear view mirror thinking what the hell are you still doing there in your Kia.

Steering is responsive and plenty of feedback to tell you whats going on. The ST let me know more but this is still good enough for me.

My only gripe is the fact it needs to be services every 10,000 miles which means my 5 services i paid for up front will only last for about 3 years for me with the miles I do but its hardly a big issue.

Thanks for the review, certainly an interesting car smile

I actually really miss my speed limiter (had one in my Clio RS, but don't in my MINI) the main usage being average speed cameras. No need to ever look down at the speedo!

My wife told me that she used to see a bloke who used to have an orange ST and swapped it for a white Kia. This was on her way home from Work on the A24 Horsham to Worthing...Was this you?

I use the limiter on our Mazda all the time. 30 zone, flick it to 32 and just drive about safe in the knowledge you won't go over and don't have to look down. Use it in 40's and 50's in roadworks if there is a lot of traffic and its yo-yo'ing, where normal cruise would be annoying (active cruise fixes that though).
