Check your door skins where they join the door frames, i.e. open the doors and look at the edges. You might find there's a bubble or two starting there.

Absolutely amazing cars and I miss mine dearly but corrosion is never far away. I had filler area and sills done but I could see it wouldn't be long before the car lost substantial value due to corrosion or required substantial spending to sort it.

So I still have this, as I cannot bring myself to sell it for some reason, despite the interest I have had in it.
At the moment though I do have other things that my money needs to be spent on first, so I am in a quandary! Also my current job has me working away most of the time, and as I currently only have the one car, I am putting over 1500 miles a month on this, and that isn't cheap lol, so my time has been quite limited.

Basically I need to do the following work to it still;

Fit facelift steering wheel that I have bought.
Repair and fit AE head lights.
Source Face life rear lights and wiring adapters.
Fix leaking vapour seals on back doors.
Fit drivers side door seal.
Fix brake judder.
Fit new cam shaft sensors.
Refurbish VANOS Solenoid boards.
Sort paint and rust.
Replace squeaky suspension top mounts.

And there are other jobs that I would like to do it as well.

The thing that keeps going through my mind though is, what would I replace it with for the money that does what the M5 does? I'd like a VXR8 but they're £16k, or an E55K Merc, but good ones are also in excess of £16k, and they do not seem to be rated very highly. I do not know if I could live with an E60 M5 and I cannot afford an F10 M5.

The odd cheaper one does come up. wink ignore miles and buy on condition.

Not mine mind as spent more on the engine than what the car cost me!

Tbh I will probably end up running the M5 for another 18 months and see how the job prospects look. Need to find a job closer to home really before I could get something like a VXR8.

Finally got around to fitting the Angel Eye headlights to the car.

The headlights need cleaning up as they're pitted etc so that's another job to do.

Sort your number plate!
hehe it doesn't annoy me enough to sort it. I have a pressed plate and surround to go on, but as the front is curved I need to make it fit properly.

Keep it Keep it Keep it!

A naturally aspirated BMW V8 from the glory days is always going to win over the hearts and minds of a PHer. Plus a full exhaust and a quality, well-fitting air filter will transform the car and are very easily removed should you ever wish to.

Great cars, always remind me of Clive Owen making the car dance.

It's got the back box delete done already so it makes a nice noise smile.

I'm not really sold on the air filters, its a lot of money for very little gain.

Fitted a face lift steering wheel and new drivers side door seal a few days ago - not got around to doing some pics yet though! Not exactly exciting.

This is £578 worth of parts:

4 camshaft position sensors, various VANOS solenoid o-rings and VANOS solenoid boards cover gaskets.

All to be fitted to hopefully cure the stutter it has at low revs.

£578 ?! nuts

You could buy another car for that. biggrin

Edit - realised I forgot to ask the original question: does the gear lever have the option of the illumination from factory?

The illumination is standard on the M5.

New pump fitted and working!

I think there is an issue with the float though as the fuel gauge is under reading. One to look at another day

What's up next then? Another E39 or something further afield?

Mazda6 mps until I get enough for either a cleaner E39 M5 or an E60 M5.
