I bought this 182 from Graham today and so far it's going great. Years of turbocharged cars mean I'd almost forgotten the fun of revving a NA engine right up to the red line, but bloody hell it's coming back quickly
Of the list of jobs which needed doing I've already tackled..... fitting a set of mats. Gotta do the tricky stuff first y'see. There's a bunch of service items and a refurbished steering wheel sat in the garage waiting to be fitted. The exhaust is definitely a priority, the blow sounds hilarious under load but obviously confuses the hell out of the car at idle.
The plan is track days so a good check over, freshen up of brake fluid, front pads and a full service beckons and then I'll see how hard the bug bites before deciding whether to do any mods or not.
Brilliant little cars, so much fun to chuck about, I'm a bit in love with it. This usually doesn't end well for my wallet

First trackday booked at Bedford in October and in a couple of weeks the car is off for a thorough going over at a local mechanic who's well used to prepping cars for track use.
This weekend I'm hoping to replace the steering wheel with a refurbed one as it's done the usual Clio "melted wheel" thing and also replace the instrument cluster with a fully working one as the temperature gauge doesn't currently work. Got a slow puncture to get fixed too.
Other than that, I shall mostly be ragging the nuts off the thing on some favorite roads.

A morning of hard graft on the Clio today.
First job was to replace a couple of filters. Air filter was obviously fairly recent although ready for a change, but I'd say the pollen filter probably hasn't been done for a while......
Yuck.
Next job was to remove the top of the dashboard, the steering wheel and the clocks. Bit of a mess.
I needed to change the instrument cluster because the temperature gauge was dead and picked up a used cluster for £16. Having swapped it out the temperature gauge is working fine, and as a bonus the car has now only done 85k miles instead of 111k
The other reason for all this was to replace the steering wheel which had "melted" as most of the Clio wheels seem to. It's not just a cosmetic thing, it also makes the wheel feel tacky when it gets warm which is a really nasty sensation.
So, from this:
To a wheel which has been really nicely refurbished in leather:
And all back together again.
The exhaust blow is now truly hilarious, especially when cold at idle there's a constant "put put put" from underneath the car, so I'm looking forward to getting that fixed.

I've recently became a fan of the 182. I bought one about a month ago as a little "something for the weekend". I'd moved house and sold my Impreza for something a little more economical. And much more boring.... A friend is a Clio specialist who buys accident damaged/broken ones and repairs them before selling them on. I asked him to keep an eye out for one for me and after a couple of months one came up with the right amount of damage and the right spec. Buying from an auction was a bit of a gamble but gotta say, for once it came up trumps. It's a '55 plated, one lady owner car with 52k on the clock. Really love driving it. Here's a picture of it with the rear end damage.....
Just needed the boot floor pulling out a bit. The tailgate, bumper and everything else went again. Not even the number plate lamp was damaged! Here's a pic of the damage as it is now. I won't be replacing the bumper or tailgate anytime soon as for what it stands me for and for what I want it for, it's so minor it's not worth the effort. Other than that, it's spotless!

Jealous? With that V8 to listen to?
I've done a fifth of the purchase price already in bits and it's going in for the pre-track day check over next weekend - might not be cheap!
Oh, and the airbag light has come on. Suspect I've buggered something up. bks. Need to get a code reader on it.
Still, went out for a hoon in it earlier on and enjoyed every minute. It's just so talkative at normal road speeds, cracking little car.

11th October not the 6th at Beford I'm afraid
Blue is not the fastest colour, I thought everyone knew the flecks of gold in the black paint are there to reduce drag which definitively makes the black cars the fastest.
I've done a bit more reading and I think you're probably right about the steering wheel squib. I'm sure I've not broken anything but I definitely moved it around when taking the wheel off. I'll be doing quite a lot of mucking around with the car so I'm debating whether it's worth investing in a Clip (or at least a "cloned" one).

Had my fair share of Clios and my involvement with them is still pretty strong. Clip is a very useful too if you use it often.Blue is not the fastest colour, I thought everyone knew the flecks of gold in the black paint are there to reduce drag which definitively makes the black cars the fastest.

I've got a DICE/VIDA kit for my Volvo and it's been very useful, so I've taken the plunge and ordered a Clip too. Even if I get rid of the car the diagnostic kits always sell on pretty well so it won't actually cost that much in the long run.
(Yes, Man Maths at work )
Now, if I could just stop looking at suspension and brake upgrades......
