Had the decat fitted on Monday, also had a new rocker cover gasket yesterday.

It's all ready to go in for mapping tomorrow!! Excited.

Inlet temps are looking very healthy now, fingers crossed for some decent power tomorrow!!

Interesting project, thanks for sharing smile

Out of curiosity, what is the "max" bhp you've been advised to run without an intercooler/chargecooler? I'm curious as I have an Ariel Atom and with the latest factory map they supposedly run 310bhp without additional cooling. I'd been idly wondering what the max power you can run on a supercharged K20 before inter/chargecooling becomes essential to stop it blowing up.

Cheers smile

Hi mate.

The kit I had was rated at 265bhp, I now think I wouldn't use one that isn't intercooled at all. The inlet temps are just way too high to be comfortable IMO.

I suppose it depends on your attitude to the risk and limitations involved, it gets very hot!

That's because it has no bodywork! hehe

Looking good Butter, i bet you cant wait to get it all finished/sorted to give it a proper run out driving

What tyres are you using?

Presumably the car being so light will also help with engine loads?

I'd imagine that the atom cools a lot better as the engine is a lot more exposed? Looks like the TTS Atom kit is very similar to the sport kit on my car.

Martin - I'm currently running Toyo Proxes, they're ok but nothing special. I am considering Michelin Pilot Sport 3, but I think I'll wear out the Toyos and get an LSD sorted first.

Well the mapping session didn't go to plan unfortunately...

Took the restrictor out and ran it at 10psi, running too lean (as would be expected)

So the tuner adds more fuel, then more fuel, then more fuel. Nothing.

Looks like the (OEM) fuel pump has maxed out which is annoying.

So back to 6psi boost, safe map to drive the car. Now we need to run a Warlbro pump, FPR and plumb in a return line (EP3's don't have a return system for the fuel as standard) to get the fuel pressure where it should be.

One day it will work properly hehe

Is it just me or are you making this unnecessarily difficult?

The ubiquitousness of the s/c K20 means that surely there's tried and tested blueprints you could just follow?

Hmmm, I wouldn't say I'm making it difficult. It's all a learning curve.

You have to take into account that as it stands (excluding the mapping) I am in for less than a new off-the-shelf TTS Sport kit!

I like to tweak and play and learn about this stuff so I see it as a hobby and a bit of fun too smile

Oh, and I wanted to keep the Aircon too, most intercooled kits means that needs to go!

I'm normally quite impatient, but I don't like spending (too) friviously. My best mate is a legend and pitches in to do the stuff that I can't.

I was ready for stivking the car up on eBay on Friday after that and getting rid, he's told me not to be a pussy and get it sorted hehe

The supercharger on the Atom is similar to or is the Jackson Racing charger which bolts straight onto where the inlet manifold should be isn't it?

The Jackson chargers are very rarely if ever intercooler and regularly run a reliable 280-330bhp.

Yes, the Atom uses Jackson Racing chargers bolted direct to the intake. Why don't they need intercooling like the OP's set up? The factory do a 350bhp upgrade that does require an intercooler, but if I could get circa 330bhp aftermarket without needing to go down the intercooler route I would be very interested smile

Mr Butter Face, apologies for hijacking your thread good sir wink

No worries!

I don't think it's a case of the JR intercoolets not needing an interccoler, I didn't think it was physically possible! I've seen a general one chargrcooler for them but not an intercooled one.

350bhp is about he most you can get out the m62 blower. You might push closer to 400 but intake temps are going to be going up and up at that point. would need the larger and more efficient TVS1320 or bigger at that point.

The Rotex that the TTS kit uses can go to about 500bhp in the current location or over 650bhp is the race location (where AC comp sits - you can fit the bigger blower there).

They are totally different ways of makin boost and the delivery will be different.

Of course the JR charger makes that traditional 'whine' which I reckon would get annoying for a daily!

Watching this thread with interest and a bit of dejavu - my brother runs a Rotrex C30-94 Supercharger with TTS Performance mounting kit / inlet manifold, PWR charge cooler, Kpro ECU, Snow Performance water and Methanol Stage 3 injection kit & Wizards Of Nos 50bhp dry nitrous kit plus lots of other uprated bits, running 460bhp.

It's a pig to squeeze in, but worth it.
