Clutch and box finally out, pretty worn out and I'm sure that's an original clutch in a 130k car! It's done very well.

Looking forward to having it back tomorrow.

Clutch is all done, looks like I had my money's worth from the old one...

The clutch slave cylinder bracket decided to snap when coming off, so a quick bit of welding and were back together..

Car drives superbly now, H brace from a few pages back fitted st the same time, along with the solid shift bushes.

My mate also realigned the bonnet for me as it hadn't been sitting right since being painted last year.

Nice one, working through the parts list smile

Has it made a difference to the clutch pedal weight, changing to a heavy duty version ?

It's actually lighter compared to how it was, but the old clutch was fked as was the release bearing.

The bite is completely different. It's a bit harsher now, almost akin to a paddle clutch but not quite as violet, somewhere in the middle i'd say.

The solid bushes on the shift cables have stiffened up the shift too, it feels like driving a different car!

Clutch is bedding in nicely. Feels loads better to drive.

The problem with modifying cars is that there always seems to be a small issue to fix. There was a creak coming from the steering rack which I've solved with some cable ties and some spray grease to the slider, but I need to replace the rack at some point with a new one with the brass slider I've got.

Also noticed that the fuel hose on the return from the fuel rail to the FPR had deteriorated quite badly. Hose supplier couldn't understand but put it down to the heat/petrol. Was looking pretty rough..

Luckily they gave me a metre of replacement hose for free which was good of them. This stuff os 'marine' grade so supposedly better for higher temps. We'll see.

Comparison of the wall thickness difference.

Doesn't look much different but it's thicker and should hold up better.

Mapping is next Saturday! Let's hope it works properly this time!

Quick update, car went in for mapping on Saturday. All went fine, until the road test.

I'd noticed over the last few weeks that the car has been losing power when hot, almost like fuel starvation, but with all new fuel lines, new pump, FPR etc, we couldn't have a fault, could we?

Yes.

Started losing power on the way home, threw a code for the O2 sensor which didn't seem right.

Went into Kmanager and ran the car in open loop, so effectively disabling the O2 sensor input, made no difference.

Removed the fuel tank breather valve, in case pressure was building up, made no difference.

Decided to check the fuel pressure, bingo. Should be 3.5 bar on idle which it is cold, then just under 5 bar on boost. When the car heats up, pressure drops to 1.5 bar! 2.5 ok boost, so there's the issue.

Checked the voltage to the pump and that's fine, so looks like a ducked pump. After the FPR failing in starting to get a bit annoyed that two parts from the same supplier have cost me lots of time (and cash)

So a new pump will be here soon, get that fitted and try again!

Did make a very nice 317bhp though!

That's frustrating. Is the pump the original one?

No, it was a brand new Warlbro fitted november last year! Incredibly frustrating to have this issue with it.

Reading this does inspire me to spend some money on mine, but I can’t make up my mind whether to do so or not.

How much have you spent so far Butter? If that’s not too personal a question!

My Civic is moth balled at the moment, awaiting a 125d company car! My dad has a ML55 AMG which i have been running around in while the new car is built, its nice and makes a lovely noise but JESUS is the fuel economy is bad hehe

Never realised how frugal the EP3 actually is....

Mines averaging around 20mpg at the moment so I don't think I'd be too shocked hehe

The EP3 is indeed surprisingly economical when driven sensibly and off VTEC yes

To keep it Honda related, definitely more economical than the B16a and the H22a engines.

New pump is in, supposedly a 'pre release' development type pump, better flowing than the old one. Need to pop across and check the fuel pressure tomorrow then we're off!

Wish me luck.

Great news!

Well, kind of. Tuner checked the fuel pressure, said he still saw a few small dips but overall ok. Going to put a new earth on the fuel pump and a better relay for it also but, and this is ace.

It runs! It's fking quick too hehe 317.9bhp which I'm stoked at. Sure that's the figure he gave me anyway, but I'll get a dyno print soon.

It goes so well, I spanked it for 60 miles yesterday/today and it's been faultless and lots of fun. By god that feels good!!

Looks great and that's pretty useful power. I currently have a NHB EP3 track car, but have always loved them in red (when it is actually redsmile ).
