My First v8 lexus ls400 at just 20 :D
Discussion
Turned 20 about 3 weeks ago and a friend at the time was looking for an ls400 so as you do i stuck my details into comparison site and £1600 popped up. £1600 to insure a 4.0 v8 at 20 it needed to be done.
so i sold my mk1 1.8 mx5
then had to find an ls400, i prefer the mk4 facelift due to the vvt engine and i think it looks much better. Found one 90 miles away. a grand cash handed over and the big old girl is mine
Averaged 33mpg driving back in it and been averaging around 17 around town in it which isn't bad at all for what it is.
Plans are to LPG it, get some lowering springs, free up the v8s vocal chords with exhaust and cone filter then find some 350z gt rays wheels

They are a great, very well made car. not really tuning material ( in my opinion) would have gone for the GS430 sport they look really cool. enjoy it!
in my opinion the 1uz is leaps and bounds ahead of the 2uz and 3uz engines, the over engineering that went into the engine which was originally designed to be for an indycar and the entire car is unreal. it is just so nice and smooth to drive though, can barely tell it's started
33mpg sitting between 40-80mph. over 100 miles with some testing of the cars performance i averaged 31.3mpg it has an extremely low drag coefficient so that helps.
This is my fuelly account for it

Early days yet
They can give surprisingly good MPG in the right circumstances. Certainly overall compared to most big V8's they're absolutely excellent on fuel - but everything's relative
OP check under the carpets in the boot if you haven't already - water leaking past a weak boot seal is one of the very few common issues on these and it's an easy, cheap fix if you know where to get a suitable seal from. Drop me a line if you've got the issue.

£1600 how much is the car worth ?? Can't be more than £500 ?? Bonkers.
insurance isn't based on the value of the car though...I don't get comments like this and see it all the time. It's just how it is for young people these days. Anyway, cool car OP, especially at your age. If you went to my college, it would certainly stand out from everyone else's cars at that age.

It might be a while since I was 20, but I can't imagine what the attraction is with spending so much to insure an old-timer's car...Dave200 said:

I can see a few that would have appealed even at that age...Big V8.
Comfy seats.
Gadgets.
Decent stereo.
Room for your mates.
Different to the usual tatty hatchbacks.
Insurance hardly cheap even on a clapped out Corsa.
