Judging by that plate, properly IVA'd and therefore actually road legal too. There's a lesson in that somewhere...
Seen it in the flesh on Sunday, amazing work, just awesome.
Having the same plate it had before proves that?

Right.....

It was on a Q plate before as it had been stolen recovered years before which put it on a Q plate.

But no actual proof of the IVA being done yet there seems to be a puddle of drool forming.......

Small chassis mod on a Mk5 Golf and the keyboards are buring red hot with negative comments.......

I'm off to post in the "What's wrong with pistonheads" Thread.

I'm off to post in the "What's wrong with pistonheads" Thread.
Quote from its project thread: 'It came from Edinburgh and has had an exciting life so far! It started life in Germany untill in was imported in the late 90's i think, so it is lhd. When it was brought into the country it was stolen and then recorverd after 9 months in a compound with a load of other stolen cars. Therefore it is on a Q plate.'

Edit: I'm not saying it hasn't been IVA'd after its rebuild. But don't assume its been IVA'd after the build because of the Q plate! smile

That was an error on my part, but my basic point still stands. The OP has effectively said he car hasn't gone through an IVA despite the fact it probably need to in order to be road legal; there's no evidence the Quattro hasn't undergone one so assuming that it hasn't seems a bit silly to me. The rest of it is "properly" done as it were, why would you assume that the IVA would be different?

For what it's worth, I don't have any issue with the OP's car; in fact I quite like some of the details though I've never been much of a fan of the air ride fad. I just take issue with the bodge-it attitude of cutting structural chunks of chassis out of a car and then not having it properly inspected afterwards. And if there's any evidence that the same has taken place with the Audi, I'll gladly eat my words.

I've spotted at least 6 threads of projects where the chassis is being modifed greatly yet folk are fawning over them but one chassis mod on a golf and it's like they've slapped a guy from the middle east with a slab of bacon.....

Seems that alot of people have a dislike for the 'scene' when they in fact, were members of a 'scene' at some point in their lives.

Edit:

I'd also like to add, I'm in no way crapping on the sport quattro project, I've followed the whole thread from start to finish and have seen the meticulous attention to detail and safety that has been used in it's construction. I just used it as an example to show the different reactions.

Another point, the Audi is a regular at VW/Audi shows and is well known in the Dub 'scene'

Now now, don't make the mistake of assuming I'm slagging off the OPs car

My comments are in regards to the direction this thread has headed into

But his Ford Focus is much better than the car in question?

Not sure what point you are trying to prove but you can have an opinion on any car without having to own one.

Yes indeed, which is why I was querying the previous comment as quoted.

You don`t have to own a superior car to be able to have an opinion and comment on something.

Interesting to see the modified chassis. I work in design for an OEM and often get involved with the crash testing because my parts have a direct impact on the crash performance.

As an anecdote, earlier in the year I wanted to move a 10mm dia hole in the front side member by 20mm and was vetoed by the crash simulation dept because it dramatically altered the point at which the side member collapsed meaning the passenger cabin deformed in the new condition.

I piss around a lot with my MX5 but messing with structural bits is a whole different game.
That notch looks like there would be a high stress concentration around it which wouldn't give a good even collapsing of the structure in my opinion.

Each to their own though I suppose, it's definitely not to my taste (even less that mk1 with the grit trap on the bonnet) but then it's not my money, an IVA would probably be sensible though.
