Used to love the view in the Mirror over the arches in my 944 & 968, it wasn't the same in the XK8...especially as 2 bits of window trim didn't line up which used to annoy me! (German vs British build!)

My 944 would come on boost at odd moments, if you were accelearting gently in 2nd or 3rd off a wet roundabout and not really concentrating the boost would build slowly and then suddenly the next thing you knew you were sideways in a powerslide and having to wake up quickly to deal with it!

Always watch the boost gauge! Even a hint of damp will see a 951 spinning up the road in third and maybe beyond (officer)...

Glad it's back and running well, time to get to know it properly and enjoy it! They keep you on your toes, but in an exciting and predicable way just like a sports car should smile

Can't help when reading about the 951 boost onset and ensuing sideways fun, that this sounds very familiar. My 951 ran a bit lower than normal and we ended up raising it back up to closer to standard ride heights as the rear suspension was bottoming out as the boost came on. Obviously, that transition from normal spring rate to bump stops ment an almost instant sideways moment. I was running 303hp/330lbft, but all the transaxle cars tend to squat down a fair bit, so ride height is certainly something worth checking.

BTW, driving a friends 924 Carrera GT was what decided me on buying a 951. It was fun for a while, but too old to run as a daily. Come winter, I felt like I was destroying it.

In good company at Bristol Queen Sq. earlier:

MOT tomorrow and then getting the headbolts re-torqued. A substantial coolant leak developed on the way home, looks like it's coming out of the big hose from the bottom of the radiator.

Time for an update!

Radiator hose was indeed past it, replaced and now not using any coolant!

Took it for MOT at a local Indy and it went straight through after tweaking the handbrake & headlights. With an MOT friendly headlight cover after I lost the other one at speed.

Pinched this from our T25 camper. I built up a decent collection of tapes with my old NA and love how clunky the buttons are, so it must be fitted soon!

Found a set of black headlight covers, so the smiley face can join the spares pile. Also got a replacement dipstick as the rubber boot had split on mine and made it awkward to judge the oil level, since you could slide the dipstick down as far as you wanted!

Picked up a set of centre caps and some steel nuts to replace the factory aluminium ones that had seen too many windy guns.

Made it to the Ace Cafe for a 924 meet. I'd been looking forward to it for ages, having not been to many car things lately! As always it was nice to meet up with the 924 owners and get a decent breakfast at the Ace. It was a bit of a mojo boost too, with even Ricky Caeser impressed! On the way home I got stuck in stop/start traffic for 90 minutes, didn't overheat and then blasting home along the M4 I arrived with all my coolant! It's the first time I've been on a long motorway run after the work has been done, and it pulls very well at those speeds. Picked up a replacement door seal and a factory airbox with all the fittings for the price of a breakfast too, the generosity & helpfullness of the 924OC knows no bounds!

I gave the airbox a quick rub down and paint. I was surprised how expensive an OE filter is for it! Anyway, it really finishes off the engine bay nicely and is a lot more subdued than the K&N cone filter it replaces. I've cheated with the straps for now but a 924OC member is kindly making a set of metal ones with a rubber backing. I washed off the remnants of my coolant leaks too.

It's like the ship of Theseus:

Interior wise, I have a new door seal, what a difference that made! The old one was in two pieces and couldn't grip the door anymore. Now it's very refined inside. I sniped a mint condition arm rest for £20 on eBay and picked it up locally which was a result. I had a Momo wheel in my NA and liked how much stiffer & more taught it made the steering feel. I picked up a period Momo Racing Line wheel, which had a genuine Momo Porsche boss left on, all for £40! It's a little chunkier and more comfy than the 3 spoke, even if it's not to everyone's taste. I will have to get rid of that yellow horn button though! So an MOT and a few inexpensive changes that have made a real difference, happy motoring!

Should I do the Carrera script on the front wing though?

Always enjoy your write ups. Yes to the Carrera script on the wing. The point of the shield on the wheel centres should be pointing to the tyre valve. Details matter. smile

I see that you took my advice and kept hold of the sports seats. I have bought a set myself which are like new, although I don't have a 924 or series one 944 to put them in. Theyre with the collection of other Porsche seats in my spare bedroom...

Whereabouts did the steel wheel nuts come from, please?

Nuts came from GSF, you can easily find a discount code for 25-30% off, making them about £1 each!

Sweet. Thank you. Motorsport friendly too, which I will need (although I have never ever had a scrute ask me about the alloy wheel nuts despite what the Blue Book says).

After much soul searching, I've realised this car just isn't me. I miss the days of blatting around in a simple NA, using it all the time and not polishing it very much.

I've bought a 1988 924S with the full fat 944 engine and so it's time for the turbo to go. I'm glad I had the opportunity to own it though! I'm asking £9k, which is what it owes me, that's about £40k off the price of a real one for the sake of a VIN number...

Woah. Whilst I'm a big fan of the S, and have considered them in the past, I am disappoint. That gorgeous black (let's call it because to me it's good as) Carrera GT seemed the perfect thread evolution. I love that car. I know its not been without issue but still saddening. And I'd rather be seeing pics of that in this thread.

There's always another car adventure to be had Felix, it was nice to meet you at the Ace, I was the chap that bought Brandon's white 924S.

I look forward with equal enthusiasm at reading the posts for the evolution and enhancement of your new "S".

I'll get some pictures of mine up at some point, been slowly going over her making lists, cleaning, and rust fighting.

How times change. Not too long ago you could buy a Porsche 937 for £9,000!

Shame to see the black car going. I did enjoy looking it over.
