Let me guess.... OSR shock burst? Mine did too!

Was already fitted with a Janspeed sports cat and rear box. Std ones seem to rust after about 5years, £600 replacement from Renault too! Noise did grate on me, but it wasn't too bad. Steering wheel melting was a source of annoyance also...

All in though, fantastic truly small car!

It's my "first performance car" and I couldn't be happier. As you mentioned, it's easy to live with and it all wakes up on a narrow twisting road. Main concern to me are annoying squeaks and rattles from inside. And yeah, I think my A/C compressor is dead too !
I know shipping would probably be more but I found the parts from cliosport through wolverhampton renault were dirt cheap! well... apart from the exhaust. I got 2 rear disc's with the bearings for £90 delivered!

I think that's one of the Clio 2 strongest point : it's big enough for two + weekend bags but it's still a small car - with a big engine, wheels and brakes wink

went to a local rally last weekend. There were loads of hot hatches (205/206/207/AX/Clio 2 and 3...) but the best for me was the sound of that engine !

going down one size : lighter wheel + Michelin Exalto (not available in 16) = better handling ?
at least that's the plan...

Not sure about whether the Exalto is going to be the best choice, but that's certainly my experience so far of dropping down to the 15" wheels.

The car feels even better, more responsive, less tramlining, nippier.

I've taken my back seats out too, and now I need earplugs biggrin

When I first bought the car it was sitting on Exaltos (205/45/16) and it was just brilliant. Turn in was crisp and the grip on less than smooth road was excellent. Then I got the PS3 and was mildly disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent tire (even better in the wet) but not sporty enough. Feedback through the wheel is more subtle too with more information but less detail. So i'm expecting a lot but the tires are pretty old and show some cracks so I don't think i'll keep them for long. Anyway a new set will be 25% less expensive than the 16" PS3 (part reason for the swap).

Also I weighted one OZ F1 wheel with tire at 15kg, I'll check but I believe it's 2.5kg lighter a corner than a standard wheel and tire (another good reason then).

Removing the back seats is a great thing (much so than it seems in fact), especially for the noise. Which catback are you using ?

Yep I'd agree, my 15" wheels are definitely lighter than the 16" wheels.

I've got a Milltek cat-back, it's not too noisy, unless you de-cat it as well smile

just went shopping, the car feels very different. it sits a fraction lower, there's less road noise, the ride is better and the turn in felt much better. I've ordered two new Exalto's because the previous ones were from 2006, should have checked better yesterday when I bought them ! It gives the car a phase 1 look, love it. the wheels are pretty much ragged except one but they were the cheapest available so can't complain too much.

Ordered two "new" Exaltos for the front. Apparently the tire is discontinued so I'll see the year on the new ones. Did a quick blast on back roads today, can't believe how the car feels : less understeer, no less grip, less noise, better irregularities absorption, i'm very pleased indeed. Also the Brembo front discs now show themselves through the wheels !

Have to say the car looks a bit weird in plain light but I couldn't care less. I'm keeping the OE wheels for the MOT because in France at least, 195/50/15 weren't allowed on the 182 (neither on the 172, only on phase 1).

New reflexion too : I think i'll stop upgrading the car and will stick to OEM. Actually only air filter, front brakes, pads and cat aren't standard and that'll be everything for now. In two years the belts are due and probably the clutch too. The body needs a lot of attention too, I have various dents on both doors (and an annoying one on the right rear panel), bumper and bonnet need respray so i'll probably get a new paint at some point. And if I could find some Recaro Trendline...

some good and bad stuff happening

the bad : I damaged the driver's door while reversing in my garage with the engine off... stupid move as always.

Renault said it was fixable but the bodyshop told me otherwise so I have already found a black door to replace it.
I'm not that gutted because there was also a key mark that needed attention but it didn't trouble me that much, now it definitely needs attention (although everything is in working order).

About the wheels, I found 4 in like-new condidtion fitted with winter tyres. Problem was that there were 3x 195 and 1x 205 so I ordered two PE2 and fitted them at the rear. I also bought Rim-Ringz alloy protection in black :

I still have Ferodo DS2500 pads at the rear, which can get the wheels dirty really quickly.
I put Brembo HP2000 at the front and the compound seem much more cleaner (and less noisy).

the good stuff now : winter tyres mean I was able to go through the Gorges du Verdon in december. Clear blue sky, almost no traffic and a lot of sliding on left-hand turns because in France this means you're two meters away from the apex and the snow plow had left this side snowy !

After recently purchasing a 172 this is a thread of particular interest to me. I see there are many RS Clios present on here as well!

It is interesting that the wheels made a great difference. How do the weight of the various RS Clio wheels compare? I am intrigued to see how they compare to each other.

16" OEM wheels + Michelin PS3 = 17.5kg / 38.5 lbs
15" OZ F1 + Michelin PS2 = 15kg / 33 lbs

all weight difference is coming from the wheels because the 195/50/15 tyres are fatter. but the good news is that they're more rigid so you get the best of both worlds : same fantastic handling but less crashy in town. I think the lighter wheels are the OZ Ultraleggera in 15" (5kg each) compared to OZ F1 (7.5kg), but they are two times more expensive.

at last the door has been sorted out ! I asked to respray the front bumper and the left front wing too as they had some minor scuffs. Problem is that I need to wax the whole car now...
