If they were so bad, how is this one, and many others still hanging on in there with huge mileages after 12 years ?

Looks really rather nice, think they may eventually be a little bit collectible.
Id say they will be quite collectable eventually.

Not only were they a good car by all accounts (K series 4 cylinder hgs aside - and even that looks insignificant when you look at modern diesel issues imo) but they were also very late in Rovers life as a manufacturer - AND part of the final Rover and MG line up when they went burst in 2005.

Quite so. I've had a run of three all of which have been very good. The latest one I got for free (was a swap + cash my way for my old one) which is a diesel with night on 300k on the clock. I've added a thousand miles on that in the past few weeks with no problems.

They do have their issues - but so does any car of a similar vintage, and to be quite honest, mine (cumulatively) are costing a lot less in maintenance than my parent's MY08 Citroen Picasso. Can't complain at all.
