Happy days! smile Plug leads arrived from the good folk at Magnecor! Rebuilt 'dogleg' gearbox (thanks to C3 BMW in Kent) is also in, along with new clutch and the Samsona shifter. All being well, by the end of the week, I should have a running fully rebuilt s14 back in situ and will be ready for mapping.

Still no news re the 3 piece wheels though. Evidently the newly spun barrels and outer lips were next in line at the machine shop. That was over 2 weeks ago though.

Well all we need now are a couple of hoses for the crankcase and cam cover breathers and we'll be just about ready to fire the engine up. Yes, I know it's all looking a bit grubby under there but that'll get sorted when the finished car gets a thorough detailing. smile

Great news, you must be glad it's all coming together now. Let us know when you start mapping as I would love to come across and have a nose as Sandy works his magic.

Thanks guys. Pics don't really do justice either.

I'll let you know Marc. Ideally I'd like to be there and get some video.

Well it seems the ITB's need synchronising so the air box needs to come off. The TPS has also needed a new mount fabricating and the DTA switched. As a result, it'll be a few days before we're ready to fire the engine and get the mapping done. Having come this far there's no point rushing the final few tasks. So near and yet so far though.

Meanwhile, new rubber has arrived and hopefully the wheels will be here soon and we can get them mounted. I opted to stick with r888's for now, although I'll probably get some Federal 595's and mount them on the Compomotives for the winter months.

Just dropped in and the car is being worked on. The loom (for the DTA Pro) is being extended slightly to allow the ECU itself to be position beneath the dash, where the glove box used to be. Once that's done it'll be time to fire the engine for the first time. smile

Apart from that, the newly refurbished steering wheel (Jack Royal) and the new binnacle (with analogue Stack rev counter and gauges) look great. I'm really happy with the overall look of the interior now and along with the Samsona shifter, it just feels way more special that it did when stock. I know some people don't like the direction I've taken with my car and much prefer the whole OE thing but I was just never that excited by the stock M3.

One of my old stock (apart from 17'' Azev) M3.

All I need now is a call to tell me the wheel refurb' is finished so they'll look like this but with the anthracite centres.

Screw OE/originality. Your mods are in keeping with the original character and intention of the car. You haven't gone over the top with bad taste mods.

I'd rethink the Ratox brakes though. When I had issues with mine (binned them), the specialist I used for my integrale said he could design a better caliper on the back of a cigarette packet.

I've been running the Tarox for a while now and had no problems to be honest. Plan to go with AP's eventually though.

We had to pause the mapping today, as the stock injectors couldn't flow enough fuel. At least we now know it's getting more fuel in though, so it's not all bad news. Anyway, I've ordered a set of Bosch 803 and booked some more dyno time for Thursday. The rev counter in the new gauge binnacle has also been playing up so bit the bullet and ordered a replacement from Demon Tweeks. It looks like I have a few more weeks overtime ahead of me. frown

To be continued…..

New rubber is just waiting for the rims to come back.

Oh and I forgot to mention that mapping so far shows things are certainly heading the right way. 225bhp @ a gnats over 5k RPM! smile

That's got to be getting quite close to 300 @ 7000 rpm.

I had a Bremo floating disc setup made and fitted, then binned the ratox st.

Despite slightly smaller discs, the improvement in braking was fantastic.

I missed this.

I would be questioning the dyno if I were you because of this:

Torque(lbft)= Power(HP)/rpm*5252

Say you have 225hp at 5100rpm, that is 231lbft of torque, or 100lbft-lt (assuming it is a 2.3), which is impossible. The very best NA engines make 90-92lbft/lt and we are talking no expense spared rpm restricted race engines. Less than 8.5k rpm at the faster the engine turns the more friction and even if you keep the same cylinder filling and burn efficiency, friction robs power, which is tq*rpm/5252.

For similar builds, you tend to see 210+220 RWHP on a DynoDynamics (dependent on how tightly they are strapped down and tyre pressures), which is about 250-260 flywheel.

Of course, on a DynoDynamics, the selected mode is important, so ask for your final run to be in Shoot 4 mode.

Maybe I misheard? I don't think I did, but I did think it sounded high and will certainly wait and see what the final printout shows. In reality, I'm looking for the same sort of figures you quoted though and would be happy with 250'ish. Having checked my bank balance I can see why so many people opted to go s50/s54 swap.

I did notice my s14 certainly sounds much better than it did. smile

New rev counter and injectors arrived so we are all set for tomorrow. The wheels arrive Tuesday.

Power came in at 235-240 which I'm not too disheartened with as it's a newly built engine with zero miles. Once it's had a few miles put on it I'll fit the 4 branch (Vink) and replace the adjustable fuel pressure regulator, which wasn't holding full pressure. I'll probably fit a 944 item but right now I need to try and recoup some of the recent cash bonfire.
