Excellent purchase! You need to lose those Poverty spec W203 'Classic' hubcaps and get some period ones.

Whats up with the Euro plate?

Excellent buy, I had a 420 SE. One of the few cars I really regret parting with. They are surprisingly quick too for their size. Good luck.

Have you checked for parcel shelf rust? That seems to be a common rust area on these.

Thanks for the positive posts.

Yes, the incongruent cable ties and plastic wheel trims, well spotted. The car's build sheet states:

238 240 280 341 362 412 430 440 461 471 507 524 543 574 584 592 600 615 640

I've only looked up the last number so far (I read newspapers from the back page!) and 640 comes up as "640 15-hole light alloy rims".

Goes off to check rear parcel shelf for rust...
Easiest to do from the boot....

Thanks! Happy to say it's like new.

Note to self 1: if locked in boot by murderous wife or local Mafia, use this:

Note to self 2: ascertain if slab of 1980s telecommunications is worth owt.

Splendid, parcel shelf rust can be a pricey job.

I didn't know about the boot lock...would have been handy whennnnnnn....smile

Might get a comms museum interested in your slab !!

ETA: Just noticed the hole in the centre console. I think your missing the wing mirror adjuster thingy. Iirc they are fairly standard across the MB ranges of the era, so you should be able to pick one up for a couple of pints.

I want one of these massively, would swap the Clio in a heartbeat. Sadly prices seem on the rise. There's even a 'barn find' 420 for £5000! Anything 500se seems to attract big money

I had an NEC 9 car phone on ebay for ages before someone bought it just for the handset to fill the screwholes in his dash and restore some period authenticity. Didn't even want the rest posted.

Love the W126... years ago my gf's dad had a manual. Was mint too. Pleasure to drive.

Well done, a car from back when things were built properly. My Dad had a few of these back in the Eighties (from when they were only a couple of years old). Your's looks to be nicer than any of them. An absolute bargain. Are you going to source some original alloys or stick with proper shedding and spend as little as possible?

Yep, owned by the nasty guy. Looks like they've stoved pretty much every panel in!

Any plans for leather chairs? It doesn't seem right having cloth in a car like that.
