My Mk5 Golf GTI
Discussion
Yea I know. I just had a few big bills recently, loads of boring weekends in and been getting sick of shed owners who get off over how little they have spent on their cars compared to mine. Good for them, as long as they are happy that's all that matters.
Clutch feels ok, though I am sure it is lighter than it was.
Quick question, I need a new flip key what is the cheapest way to get a replacement to go with the current one I have?

For 7 months that list sounds about right! With mine I needed to do quite a bit of work over 6 months - diverter valve, ac compressor, cv boots, dsg oil and front discs/ pads. When I bought it the previous owner had just done the cambelt, pcv and fitted new tyres so I was thinking it wouldn't want for any more work but unfortunately got it wrong!
I don't have any regrets anyway as they are fantastic cars and you'll probably find the lack of depreciation makes up for the maintenance costs. Would love to have another one as a fun car to supplement my daily driver mk6 diesel

So I have had the car for 7 months now and so far it has had..
Cambelt, tensioners water pump etc
Both outer CV joints **Unlucky
Front disc and pads ** Wear and tear
Under seat air bag wires soldered ** Common problem
Turbo actuator solenoid **Unlucky
Turbo actuator rod welded**Unlucky
Turbo diverter valve **Common problem on the k03 GTI as its right on the turbo.
It needs 2 front tyres and tracking, the air flaps in behind are randomly clicking and now trying to pull onto my parking space the clutch went light and very strange..
Think I bought a..

Shed owners don't spend much because they tend to just leave the little niggles. I'm one of those weirdos who tries to look after their shed and so ends up spending money anyway!Clutch feels ok, though I am sure it is lighter than it was.

As others have said, you've not bought a lemon, it's just getting on a little but is still worth looking after. Those are only really minor issues in the grand scheme of things.
In four months I've done the diverter valve and the rear pads, also spent a few quid on a few litres of oil as it does consume a fair bit (well within tolerances) and done about 4200 miles so far. It will need another service this year, which I could do myself but will probably go to an indie, for the sake of a stamp. Seems wrong to discontinue the good history, and will help come resale.
It has had a few intermittent niggles that put me off initially if I'm honest, I realise they just need a bit of preventative maintenance to keep on top off. Theres a variety of pipe work and sensors that will wear with age which is normal.
Definitely no garage queen though. It's absolutely filthy, has the odd crease and scrape, the Ed30 BBS' need a refurb and it gets driven properly most days.
If I feel sorry for it Saturday morning I might get a sponge out.
