Have you checked the fluid level in the gearbox? Can't speak for VAG products, but if a Mercedes did that, low fluid would be the most likely culprit.

I had one for around 18 months and absolutely adored it. It was a cheaper 56 plate with the "horrible rear lights" wink It was the best car I ever had and even though I now have a 996 C4S, I still lust after these C6 cars on Autotrader when bored.

When I got mine, it had the silver half leather / half alcantara interior so I got a full retrim. Also added a Milltek. I still don't know why I got rid of it...

I bought an A8 two years ago. Came with a few faults, including aircon - 4 faults, including compressor, electronic handbrake u/s, MMI screen broke within days. Now got a judder in the transmission if I try to accelerate without using kick-down or paddles, which looks like being a replacement gearbox.

Done 46,000 miles so far, just about to have its second service in my ownership. Wonderful seats, fantastic air suspension.
Would I have another? You bet. Just about to go on a 4000 mile European touring holiday in it, rather than in the TVR. I know, heresy on PH, but I am taking SWMBO, who won't tour in the TVR at any price.

Stick with it, OP - they are great cars.

I'm pretty sure someone will clarify this, but doesn't a dealer have to give 3 months warranty, at least on engine and gearbox?

Sale of Goods Act. It has to be as described and fit for purpose, which implies it will keep going for a reasonable time. Most dealers give a specific time warranty, and purchase one to back it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles OP but wouldn't expect anything less from such a car.

Your warranty needs to start coughing up.

Alright team, so its been a month tomorrow since I've picked up the S6 I suppose we better give a quick run down of the optional extras that I've discovered with the car:

- The Gearbox lottery system, making every driving event an exciting game of "Will it select a gear this time?"
- Drivers headlight energy recovery system aka. It'll flip a coin to decide if it will come on or not
- Cigarette Lighter socket that is exactly that, just a light, no actual power output
- Speed warning system, where if you rev the car past 4k RPM all the lights turn off, I do mean all lights, internal and external

Audi - Vorsprung Berk Technik

Admittedly I think that last little issue was to do with it being parked up for two weeks seeing no use, as after a spirited drive all went back to normal so I'm guessing the battery just needed a kick

Do I regret buying it?

Undecided, I want to say yes because I still get sexually aroused over RS6's but at the same time the S6 blends in so well it truly is a sleeper car

Highlight being a teenage scrote on a crossing taking great pleasure in pointing out to his mate that the V10 badge on the wing of my car was "Bullst because they didn't make a V10 S6" - I dutifully educated him by absolutely hammering it away down the road

P.S - To the chap who asked for interior pictures, I will look to get some for you soon and post in here

My A8 resets the clock to midnight if it thinks I am driving too hard to get to an appointment on time, and flattens its own battery without warning if it fancies a day off.

Foreskin Dirt in Technics, I think..... ? hehe

Well I had to jinx it with that last post didn't I?

This weekend the Gearbox issues came back with a vengeance, we had our first "Warning: Gearbox malfunction" appear of the dash that resulted in it going into limp mode, resolved by turning the car off and on again (Ahhh good job I work in IT)

It happened again on Monday and today the car didn't like the idea of going into D at all, so its warranty time boys!

And guess what, its not through an Audi dealer, its through an independent dealer so how much fun do we think this is going to be?

Place your bets now!

P.S Still thinking of buying one?

Sorry to hear of your problems.
Your story reminds me of an A6 4.2 V8 sport I owned a while back.
I need therapy now its fresh in my mind again.

Good luck

Im disappointed for you Dele.

Have you had the fault codes checked?

It sounds like it could be related to the transmission control module; if its the power supply relay this should be a simple fix however if its the control module itself then its a right pain by all accounts.

I have a B8 S4: My issues with the car are the poor brakes, the constant gearbox warnings and a duff ballast. How very Audi.

I was looking at the S6 too, but in Geneva the taxation is done according to power and emissions, so the s4 made a lot more sense, its remapped now too, of course.

Dele, I haven't commented on here because although it looks lovely, it's not my cup of tea, I have to say though it truly guts me when somebody has had the knackers to buy something like this and it all goes wrong.
Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for your condolences everyone wink

Happened yet again this morning outside my house at 05:15, not ideal to be shouting and swearing at your car while revving it to get it to move off the drive. Was a lot more severe this time and took a good 3-4 minutes to coax it into movement so the issue is certainly getting worse, I'm putting my money on the "Mechatronic Valvebody" as that has some google hits about failing/going faulty.

st happens - I'm done being angry with it, its illogical and just ends up affecting the other areas of my life. You always take a gamble when it comes to things like this, its a 4WD V10 Saloon car so there's a lot to go wrong and I knew that risk when I bought it, hence the joke in the title!

End of the day its under warranty and there's bigger issues in the world to worry about than my #FirstWorldV10AudiProblems.

I thought they only designed the internet so people could go nuts when something went wrong?

You're taking this too well.

Hopefully something not too serious that gets fixed at no cost to you

OP Best of luck getting the problem sorted.

I think big Audi's fall into one of two camps, either lemons or great cars, there doesn't seem to be any middleground. I had a 3.5yr old A8 that had nothing but problems and took more money than a run on the banks, yet there are others with mega mileage cars that just don't seem to put a foot wrong.

I just hope in the OPs case that the warranty is good, otherwise with my experinece of Audi parts prices he's in for right fleecing.

Dele just read your post on your old e92 m3, either you don't have any luck with cars or you must do something really bad to them when you take possession!
