Thanks for the nice comments, I'm already on the TT forum and have a progress thread running. I'm almost ready now to start addressing the bodywork.

these threads always make me want to ask what exact products were used... but the truth is that i would not come anywhere near your result because it's all skill and hard work. my hat goes off to you.
To be fair it's really not that hard, just taking time in the prep and not rushing things. All done with stuff from halfords.

Painted my Calipers from gold to red, not the best job but until I remove them fully which will be when I replace the discs and pads they'll do for now, also added a bit more Quattroness.

Great job on the interior! And the wheels! Looking very nice now. Don't forget to grease your door hinges if you've cleaned the grase from the factory off (the yellow looking stuff) very impressed with your work ☺

Can I ask, what products did you use to clean your arches and getting them looking so good and the process and products for your calipers, going to be doing both in the next couple of weeks?

For the wheel arches you will first need a stiff brush to remove the loose dirt, and get your hands right up under the arch where the mud will have collected. For metal work that has any corrosion I use 120 grit paper to remove the worst then quickly down to 400/800 and 1200 if I want it super smooth. Any greasy areas I clean off with white spirit and a toothbrush / paintbrush. Dry it all off and then I simply used hammerite smooth rite black. Once you have a routine it doesn't take long. The calipers were also painted using hammerite smooth red and prep involved brushing off brakedust and general clean, light sanding though on the fronts I used 120 grit to remove the cast texture as I needed a smooth surface to attach the vinyl sticker. Then simply paint red, my advice would be to mask up or remove the metal clip though like I did it can be painted carefully with a selection of brushes.

Going back to he wheel arch just use polish to clean up areas of exposed bodywork and a suitable plastic trim product.

Thank you, they are far from perfect but I had to do them pretty quick. The old BBS RA's I refurbed I spent 70 hours in total removing every single nick and mark but they will do for now and gave me a chance to see how I like the dark grey finish.

I think next time I'd still paint the colour on myself but get them professionally lacquer as you can never get it on as good as a body shop or just get them to paint the whole lot. The colour is Ford Graphite and it gets the colour spot on, either mid grey or very dark depending on the light.

Cracking work.

BTW - Audi TT on wheeler dealers tonight, you can sit back and enjoy them doing the bare minimum and giving the outside a quick mop whilst not doing any of the cleaning/painting you have done which in my opinion adds real value!

That's the stuff of nightmares, I dread to think how many hours I've spent ruining my finger tips trying to sand in between BBS spokes, RAs/RMs/RZs/RJs are all a pain but it's is the 13 inch G40 BBS which appear to have the smallest most intricate design which tests your patience/commitment levels very well

Seconded, I like reading this thread. Especially as the OH is considering a MK1 TT for her next car.

When your ready to look the TTF forum is a great place to ask questions about what to look for etc, you'll get a very friendly informative response, would you be looking for a Roadster or Coupe?

I'd prefer her to have a coupe, she would rather a roadster. Ultimately it's her choice but I'm hoping to steer her down the coupe path. Not in a position to buy anytime soon but always good keeping an eye out occasionally!

Thought I'd take a few pictures today after giving the car a bit of a clean.

Looks very purposeful in those pictures. Looks like a new car, has aged very well and yours looks a fine example.

Thanks Patch, it's getting there, I'll be fitting a V6 spoiler and LCR splitter in the next month and will start the paintwork to try and remove some of the paint chips, nothing like sanding your own paintwork lol
