Car looks great Nors - unusually, they seem to suit all colours?

Let me know any contacts re specialists / spares please - whilst I dont need anything major there are one or two bits i need to source too.
No, they do seem to suit any colour. Not a pre-requirement for me, as I was looking for the best I could find within a reasonable budget.

Spares - Anything new if you can find it is mighty expensive for a 205. eBay has been my best friend so far, but 205nuts has a few bits and pieces too.

The car is pretty original, which means some trim pieces (hardest to find) are a bit faded and stuff that is available is really expensive. 2nd hand stuff is available (but no better than I have), but even that isn't cheap and I can't find for the life of me, a Tailgate Panel (the piece the badges attach to), new or used! Considering millions of 205's were built, I'm really shocked at what little is really about for this car.

If I (or you) find any parts gold mine, I'll let you know.

As suggested though, It'd be prudent to join the forum as suggested above, it may throw up some tips!

I've got 3 tailgate panels in various states of disrepair, and my local dealer can get them from Peugeot for £70-odd.

If you're near Southampton, you can have one!

That's the trouble - they're impossible to post. Every single one I've heard of has been damaged, most snapped in half!

Lovley cars guys, very jealous.

Had the a 1.6 from new back in 1989 for a couple years and moved up to the 1.9 which I had for 5 years. Both were fantastic, now got the 208 GTI but still hanker after a 1.9.

Have to save my pennies and take the plunge before they go up in price.

Some interesting replies - obviously still some love out there for 205 Gti's! Some great cars too.

Been drawing up a list of job's...

- hole in the dash - in the little plastic triangular part in front of the coin holder. Presumably something to do with a previously fitted alarm maybe - LED? Well now its just hole - can these be obtained relatively easily and if so from where?

- scratch in the dash - more like a gouge in the surface of the actual dash itself...nothing to bad but its annoying my OCD! Anyone know if this could be repaired by these 'chips away' type companies? If not its staying as not stripping out the dash.

- oil temp gauge not working - I understand this is common? I need to get under the car and check the wiring / connections as it might be a simple fix.

- other than that is a case of minor little bits here and there that I keep discovering and some basic maintenance / tarting up that I'll do over the winter when the car is off the road.

Still getting really positive reactions to it - even from the younger guys in the office (as in, they are younger than the car!).

Lovely! I have a white one that's been around the block a few times, thought it was in pretty good shape, but yours is immaculate in comparison! Another place to check for tinworm -- behind the spare. If you take out the wheel, you'll see the main beam across the back (sorry if that's not the right term, I'm not a spanner monkey). Mine is rotten and will need some welding done at some point.

As for value, the UK is about the cheapest place to get hold of one. A mint 1.6 was up for sale for 15k€ in France recently, and mine (£2k LHD example I found on here) is insured for 7k€...

Used to have a 90 red 1.6gti - G45 WRX - cost me £500 and the air mass thing was buggered so used to stall at every stop. But still great fun and always felt like a go kart around the ring road smile

Ok... Our for a short drive with the missus...even let her have a go!...got back and thought I would give the car a quick check over. Oil a bit low so topped it up...only to get on oil on my shoes!

Breather pipe split right round so new oil just poured out!

Best place to get new breather pipe(s)?

Just seen this thread - lovely looking car.
I have a 1988 1.9gti that was standard, then had an mi16 engine fitted and now has a GTI6 engine and Xsara gearbox with Quaiffe LSD fitted.

Here are some pics of mine at Brands...

You can get new silicone oil filler hoses from Baker Bushes and Mountings, who are a great source of uprated 205 stuff;
http://www.bakerbm.com/205.php?data=sohf8v205

Or check out Spoox for loads of tasty Pug parts;
http://www.spoox.co.uk/en/

I've had mine for many years and have had most things done to it; rear beam, engine swaps, brakes, seats etc so give us a shout if you need any advice.

As a car salesman back in '86, as a junior, most of my time was spent swapping cars between Garages ( same company ) On one occasion I had to drive a 1.9 GTi back. Along the way, I caught up with a Sierra XR4 x 4 being driven with some enthusiasm. I matched him , and eventually it got the stage where I had to let him get some distance between us for overtaking purposes...i just caught him way too quickly. Car handled so well.
Would love to have the money for a toy, and the 1.9 could be that toy....great fun without having to lose your licence !
Enjoy. smile

Not surprising really, the XR4x4 weighed nearly half as much again as the 1.9 Gti and only had an extra 20bhp so the Peugeot would easily match one. Not much more rubber on the road either ( 195 vs 185 ). Sierra was good fun though for a bigger car, handled very tidily with the LSD and rear bias to the 4wd cool

Nice looking 205 OP - I remember in the late 80s/early 90s we all seemed to have a Peugeot Gti ( I went for a 309 rather than 205 - boxier looks but still great handling )

Bit of an update...

Been using the car on and off, even gave the missus a go in it....she wasn't impressed!...Got back home one day and decided to check the car over whilst is was on the drive - Tyres pressures, fluids, etc.

Discovered the oil was towards the lower mark on the dip stick so topped it up...only to discover the main breather pipe was split open = no new oil in the engine but all over the drive instead! Bought a polyurethane breather pipe kit and replaced them all.

Also discovered a oil leak from the sump so I'm currently replacing the sump gasket but cleaning up a few things at the same time. New sump gasket £7.32 delivered!

Hopefully get it back together at the weekend and try enjoy the rest of the month as I've decided to Sorn it until next year. The winter will give a chance to get underneath and tidy up / paint a few areas here n there.

Have to admit driving the car has been a laugh - its not as quick as I remember but that's maybe down to me driving the Tamora and BMW which are a faster as you would expect. Also, its seem to stick to the road better than I remember they did? I'm putting this down to the progress in tyre technology and perhaps me not being able to afford decent stuff when I was younger and had my other two GTi's...or maybe I'm not trying hard enough!

Bloomin' 'eck Pete, that sump's a disgrace lol...

Will it be getting powder coated or some POR15 treatment?

Good idea to take it off the road for the winter, it's too good to let the salt at it.

Literally just picked up my steel grey 205 from body shop full reps pray following restoration, new decals, new bumper trims etc....looks pretty sweet (1 of 300 in this colour)! I too have the gti6 engine.

Last week I got my t16 bodied 205 Cosworth 4x4 back from MAD engineering where it had a twin scroll turbo fitted and it saw 470bhp and 500 lbft torque....it would do 520 but needs some head work really....it is quite fast.

I will update my thread with pics soon.

Loving this thread, keep the pics coming.

Brilliant cars, I have a late low mileage Miami blue one with a gti6 engine. Owned it for around 5 years now, not sure whether the engine swop was a good idea although I have been offered very good money for it as it stands.

My daily driver is also a 205, albeit not a gti but a 1.6 auto, one owner and 20k miles, love em. Plus this is like a brand new car

Fantastic looking car OP. I had a red 205 XS then a red 1.6 GTI back in the day. Great cars.

A lot of them seem to be chaved up these days with big exhausts. Not a fan but I must say that the only thing that doesn't look right on the OPs car is the puny exhaust.

Enjoyed reading this and reminded of my best buddies' black 1.9 gti that he had as a company car, back in the '90s, quick ! then i remembered i bought the wife a 205 D turbo, which I'm guessing is even rarer than a gti now, not suggesting they are better or anything !

Here is my Cherry Red 1.6 GTI I owned in the early 90's.

And here is my standard 1.9 I treated myself to for my 40th birthday.
