Literally just picked up my steel grey 205 from body shop full reps pray following restoration, new decals, new bumper trims etc....looks pretty sweet (1 of 300 in this colour)! I too have the gti6 engine.
Looking forward to seeing that - by far my favourite colour (and I owned a Miami, a Sorrento and a Black).C. Grimsley said:

And another! I treated myself to a '''rebuilt''' (utter lemon) Clio Williams for my 35th... Knew I should have gone back to the GTi!iplod999 said:
Here is my Cherry Red 1.6 GTI I owned in the early 90's.
And here is my standard 1.9 I treated myself to for my 40th birthday.
OT, Would love to know how the experience was revisiting a past love, as in had the rose tinted glasses built it up too much or was it everything you remembered? just ask as I still miss mine after 12 years And here is my standard 1.9 I treated myself to for my 40th birthday.

Bloomin' 'eck Pete, that sump's a disgrace lol...
Will it be getting powder coated or some POR15 treatment?
Good idea to take it off the road for the winter, it's too good to let the salt at it.

Pack it in Spensley!...its a work in progress! It was covered in black paint that looked like it had been applied with a stick! Will it be getting powder coated or some POR15 treatment?

Its now rust treated and undercoated and awaiting a nice top coat of black...hopefully tonight if I'm stuck at work...
Some great comments and other cars on here - obviously still a lot of love for these cars out there!
Would love a go in the Cosworth engined car!
Love the comment re the exhaust - yes, it looks oddly small by today's norm but its a new full length system and one of things that attracted me to this car was its mostly original and hasn't been messed with...even if the alterations ultimately mean an much improved car / driving experience.
Here's a better view of the pea-shooter!

I did wonder about the rose tinted glass effect. I went to view the nearest one for sale to me at the time. A Cherry Red 1.9.Viewed it in the dark so couldn't tell if it had faded. However, I was mostly interested in the drive.
The seller hammered it around country lanes for half an hour and hammered it back to his house.
The smile on my face was from ear to ear.
I would have bought that one. Although, the cheery bomb exhaust had my ears ringing for a couple of days after.
I continued my search looking for an original unmolested model.
This one was found and after a 200 mile round trip she was mine.
OK, its a relatively small and simple job and small beer compared to some of the excellent work shown elsewhere on PH but the sump gasket is on and new oil added.
All looked well so after a wash and clean I decided to go for a little drive / test drive and took a few pic's when I stopped for a quick inspection...
All in all quite pleased and proud of the old girl!

sorry if this has been said before but that exhaust pipe is awful.
Other than that its a lovely lovely machine and so nice to see an OEM one.
Great work.
Yes, the more I look at it, the more I get the feeling it's for a base model rather than a GTI. Or it's been stuck on the wrong way or something.Other than that its a lovely lovely machine and so nice to see an OEM one.
Great work.
Mine's on its 3rd exhaust since I've had it, and none of them have looked like that.
