Yet another rescued E36 328i M Sport project...
Discussion
Here we are, another month down the line, and it's time for another installment.
First up is a couple of pics of the new carburetor intake boot - the original one was found to have a split in it.
It was decided to upgrade the old thermostat housing with a new aluminium version.
The next pic after it has been fitted to the engine.
The coil packs have now been installed.
The engine top covers have now been fitted, this pic also shows the new custom fuel rail cover that we bought as the original M52 cover from my car didn't fit properly over the M50 inlet manifold.
The slam panel has now been refitted to the car, ready for the radiator to be installed.
A shot of the lovely new main belt after it has been fitted to the engine. We decided to delete the air con pump as it was a heavy old unit and drained the engine of a bit of power to run and, after all, we're not living in a hot climate... This pic also shows that the crank sensor has also been re-fitted - centre left of the picture.
The radiator installed back on the car.
The new main radiator hoses have now been fitted.
This shows the main cooling fan being re-fitted.
A couple of pics that show the cold air induction kit, associated heat shield, front body panel and lights after fitting.
And finally, the front bumper has been re-fitted to the car with its trim as well. That was a good day and a half's worth of effort and has moved the car very close to taking its first drink of fuel in nearly a year and a half... Wheels and interior SHOULD be next up. Stay tuned folks!...

Properly good read, i read carpetsoiler's build thread a month or so ago and was seriously impressed with his efforts on his own car. If i were you i don't think there'd be anybody else I'd want working on my car! Bit of a shame about your thread getting hijacked a few pages back but nice to see its back on track. Looking forward to some more updates!

Thanks for your interest and I'm glad you enjoyed it so far. You're exactly right about not wanting anyone else to be doing all this work on my car! He's very thorough and meticulous with what he has done to date. He's sending the wheel barrels off to HiPol this week to get them polished up and getting the centres painted so that the wheels can be put back together. Have also paid for new boots as well! From there, he'll be starting on the interior swap over the next couple of weeks, starting with the dash and carpet, and then getting the seats dyed and refurbing the replacement driver's seat.
Then there will be the new brakes to fit, new calipers, carriers and discs: e46 330i for the fronts and e46 320d for the rears. Have already managed to procure an e36 M3 brake master cylinder and brake fluid reservoir that will be used to power those bigger brakes! Happy effin days!
Was just wondering which induction kit you used on your car? I quite fancy a shielded kit for my 328 but the 'davef' kits stopped being made about 7 years ago.
Also what mapping did you use for the M50 manifold conversion? I've fitted an adapted M50 manifold and oversized throttle bodies and a remapped ECU from End Tuning but I'm wondering which mapping company can get the best results out of this mod.
My car's not a Sport but just a standard coupe which I'm keeping cosmetically standard but with a few mechanical tweaks....
Cheers,
Ben

Thanks OP, I've read this from start to finish last night and this morning!
If I'd read this a year ago, I would have been shocked at the amount spent on it, though now owning a newer 3 series, I am shocked at how little connection there is between driver and car, so it really is good to see an older model dragged back to it's former glory.

Hi Ben. I know that the cold air induction kit and heat shield are of the 'K & N' variety. My mate sourced them for me and will also be sorting the remapping up in Southampton. Contact Carpetsoiler - via my thread above - and he'll be able to help you out. Thanks for reading and good luck. Also what mapping did you use for the M50 manifold conversion? Well, a couple of years or so ago, I would have been absolutely terrified at the amount of money that's gone into this project and almost certainly wouldn't have gone down this road! But we've gone well beyond just dragging it back from the brink. It has become very personal now and I'll end up with something different that myself and Sam have tailored to our tastes / interests... Keep reading, there's plenty more to come. Ok thanks. I'll get in touch with him.Cheers. Too bad they stopped being made about 7 years ago! I've not seen any for sale on eBay lately. I think K&N do a shielded kit so I guess I'll look at one of those.
Not wanting to crash this thread but are here any decent mapping places in this area (south west) for the M50 manifold mod? I know BW Chiptune claim to be good but they're a bit far away from me and pricy too (about £370 IIRC). I have a generic End Tuning M52 map but really looking for a map to make the most of the manifold mod.
Thanks,
Ben

As it's all relevant 328-based discussion, I don't see the issue!
I personally don't rate BW highly at all, having seen a couple of the cars they've done.
Enda is actually brilliant, and one of very few people I trust with mapping my ECUs.
