Well the X5 was not selling and a chap proposed a swap for a 2008 Octavia VRS. Worth a shout I thought.

I've used it for two days (600 miles) and it's passed my initial test. Nice noise, very pleasant turn of seed (loads of torque steer though), fairly well equipped. I can see bits of cost cutting here and there, but I think I might keep it a while.

Fuel Consumption today was 39.4 mpg. Not bad for a fast 2.0 Petrol.

I think I'll be looking to replace my 197 with one of these when the time comes and I need something more sensible. To my eye they are a brilliant blend of sportiness & practicality.
How does it handle?

It's firm and grippy. It's too fast to really get a grip on handling without bumping into a Nissan Micra around the next bend.....

Compared to the X5 the suspension is wonderful.....

That mpg is pretty impressive considering its size and power! Only seen that out of my GTI a couple of times.

These do make a lot of sense.

Real shame about the white seat inserts though -'bet they are a nightmare to keep clean

Previous day say 37.4. That did include a 90 minute cross London crawl though.

Very nice. I like the fact it's understated and doesn't look too sporty, just the right amount of smartness.

I have a Mk. 1 VRs, with a few small mods (remap, filter, Forge dump-valve, stainless exhaust).

She goes like a rocket when I want her to, but when motorway cruising at an indicated 65/70 mph, she returns 45mpg!

Great cars.

I love these so much!

If I am ever in a position where I need a practical car with poke this would be my choice.

Best colour too. Nice on OP, enjoy!

Had my mk1 for 3 years, it's a great all rounder. Unfortunately some numpty crashed into the back of it and wrote it off so I'm in the market for a replacement. OP - please e-mail me if you want to shift it, I might be interested smile

How come you are selling so soon?

Are the white seat bits dirty or are they actually grey?

They are a light grey from Factory.

They can be a nightmare to clean - mine temporarily went a light blue in places from cheap jeans. laugh

I'm not getting on with the driving position. My leg get's forced to the right and my ankle freezes. I'm also finding it too low for some of the places I need to go for work.
