... Now, onto exhaust upgrades, boost increases and more modern wheels
Its not that fast - I havent been in one yet ,but i have a hothatch that does 60-100 in 6secs (4th gear) surely a sl/cls/e55 is monumentally quicker than a 360lb ft/340bhp hot hatch
IIRC the SL55 does 0-100 in 11 seconds where as the E55 does it in 9 - simply due to the weight.
Oh, it gathers speed quickly enough but the huge torque and tall gears means that it gathers speed quickly rather than pushes your head into the seat like something like my impreza.
Its definitely fast, saying it isnt is silly. It just heavy and torquey rather then outright power. Its also the way that once past 100mph most cars tend to slow down considerably. This doesnt

Now this computes ,thanks for clearing that up Oh, it gathers speed quickly enough but the huge torque and tall gears means that it gathers speed quickly rather than pushes your head into the seat like something like my impreza.

I was looking at SL55's but with a sprog on the way I went for the E55. It's such an amazing engine and gearbox combo and can be absolutely rabid when provoked. I can see you have one with a lot of toys on it, from experience with a previous early 2000's Merc I hope that they all work!
Not to rub it in too much, but driven in Comfort (suspension and gearbox setting) I am getting 24-25 on long trips and round town tend to be in the 18-20's. I really don't take it easy either so I'm surprised yours isn't doing better than you're getting.

Is it far too rude to ask what you paid for it?
Lovely, understated and classy car, by the way.
I did wonder the same thing. MB probably charge a premium for approved used and their warranty on top of what you find in the classifieds. Lovely, understated and classy car, by the way.
Very nice car OP. I see one of these in Angel Islington the other day, what a noise.

The only thing it didn't have that I would have liked was AC seats.
The only thing I need to research is an iPod connection for my 50's rock n roll.
Other than that I'm a happy bunny
