My old Capri. It was the closest car to a Mustang I could get.

After the capri I then purchased a new Skoda Octavia Vrs. The wrc car looked awesome and the plan was to make a replica, exterior wise anyway.

That was cut short by chav scum who were joyriding a Fiat Brava that hit me head on and legged it.

Before wanting a capri as a child I always loved the Opel Manta. After watching many Group B duke videos I wanted an Opel Manta 400.

One day I found a white manta gt/e that had a c30se engine. The one from the vauxhall carlton gsi 3000 24v. It had 15x7 and 15x8 compomotive cx 3 piece splt rims.

It looked great but had issues. It had more than issues. The dashboard was an e30 bmw dash and not a single gauge worked and the wiring harness was totally butchered. It broke down on the way home but turned out the hose clamp of the radiator had fallen off. Ill post some more manta pics in a bit.

I did some research at the time and found this was the same manta. The revolution wheels were removed and at some point had a respray.

Then I sourced some 3 piece split rims, compomotive cx again but 15x9 and 15x10. The large o-rings inside the compomotives needed to be replaced. Then torque down each bolt, very time consuming.

Another one from the late 90s prior to ownership. The manta was in Scotland for a while and the owner traded it in for a pulsar gtir.

I replaced the e30 dash with the correct manta dash, however at this time the wiring was still totally screwed.

Once the bodywork was restored, I looked at the Group B liveries. The easiest to replicate was the Bertie Fisher Shell Oils car.

I took the car to a friend in the manta club down near coventry, very close to the Land Rover factory. Or might have been jaguar, not sure.

All the old wiring loom was junked and a replacement manta loom installed and he took care of what ever conversion it needed for the engine swap.

It was like a new car. I never felt so strongly for a car like my opel manta 400r.

I have met owners of real homologation 400's, narrow and wide body. They're too rare to be driven on the streets as they are irreplaceable.

This though, i'd drive it like every trip was a special stage. The inline 6 had a straight through exhaust and sounded awesome. It was so loud, I had removed all the sound proofing to reduce weight.

It is a shame there are next to no mantas left. Parts were becoming very had to obtain in 2004, I cannot imagine what they are like now.

Replaced the d/s sideskirt with new hardware. Ford will not sell the clips separate. Late model restoration sell the whole kit for $15.

Once the sideskirts were on I reattached the roush side splitter with new push pins and 3m double sided tape.

Then attached the new mud flaps. They are not big to the point of spoiling the looks, while still offer a level of protection.

Lately i've been thinking about a Corvette Z06. 06-14 C6. 505Bhp from a 427 (7.0) and up to 30 U.S. mpg (36 U.K. mpg) on the interstate, 7:22.68 Nurburgring lap time for $30k is a bargain.

Right now I am trying to test drive one. I looked at one today, however it was the wrong color, had fake zr1 wheels and transmission fluid leaking in the bellhousing, that the dealer tried to pass off as no big deal.

However I wanted to get a feel for the corvette. The trunk is pretty big, just a bit shallow.

The seating position is great, it had the 3lz package so it had the fake carbon fiber dash, heated leather bucket seats, leather dash and other stuff. Mainly i'd like the leather dash and love the head up display.

The center console was also very shallow, it would maybe fit a subcompact pistol. The engine bay gives very easy access to the engine, much more room and lower down than the mustang.

Once I got inside the battery died. I could not get out as it has buttons to open and close the door.

Made me think of this guy:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2015...

However there is a manual quick release. The dealer jumped off the car, the battery is in the trunk.

It is so sexy, especially in yellow or red. The construction of these z06's is wicked.

Le mans glory available for around 22k quid. The insurance was around 30 quid a month extra than the mustang.

Ill keep looking until I can find a good one, however nothing is decided right now.

Then I took a trip to a chevy dealer to check out the c7 z06's. One day...

They had a 2013 gt500 with the svt pp with 5k miles for $53 grand, not bad considering the mileage. Privately you can geg these around mid $40k's.

I really like the recaro leather and suede material. Same seats as mine just different material.

This is what I was talking about. A cobra with IRS being swapped out to a solid rear axle. Contary to most incorrect mustang reviews, the new s550 was not the first mustang with irs, 1999-2001 and 2003-2004 cobras had irs.

I do not like seeing this as it is removing a unique attritube of the cobra. The owner should have started out with a gt or mach one instead of doing this swap.

What benefit is there to getting rid of the IRS and replacing it with a bloody solid axle? Seems like madness.

I agree I would not do it. The main reason the solid rear axle can take much more power/torque than an irs setup. Usually it's owners who drag race their mustang cobras who do this swap and not the track racing owners.

The terminator cobras with irs keep their values well as they are very fast and tuneable. Basic bolt ons produce around 470whp. There plenty running around with 800bhp.

I believe the irs is also heavier. The s550 with irs is about 200lbs heavier than my s197. Ford Performance have also removed the irs from the cobra jet mustang and fitted a solid rear axle. The cobra jet mustang is fords drag racing mustang pre built straight from ford. You can get uprated half shafts for the s550 for big power applications but they are priced around $1500 I believe.

My solid rear axle is not bad at all. By 2011 Ford got it right and it does handle brilliantly. The biggest negative is that the springs are too soft. The only occasion I have an issue is on bumpy roads, corners with pot holes and crossing railroads.

This can be cured with a watts link.
