I always had an mx5 but sold it last year after 6 years. Ive been using my husbands mx5 for work but now Ive found the coupe I want (pick up tomorrow) the mx5 is going off the road for time being.
Im looking forward to modding the coupe a bit. Its silver and 05 plate, twin exhaust, black leather no scuff marks on bolster. The tyres are all different so will replace those with all same and get the wheels refurbished too. Also want a stainless steel exhaust to replace the old one but will paint it with aluminium paint to tide over winter till we can afford one. will be putting my reg plate I had on the mx5 on it. Got metal plates too which are far smarter and legal.

Are there any owners out there who can tell me where to get modification parts for the interior? Ive tried the hyundai forum but nobody is replying.

Do hyundais have strut bars?
What suspension do they have - they are crashy like the mx5. What is a good replacement?

Thanks

Hi,

I had a 52 plate V6. I changed a few interior parts, bought from PerformanceCoupe.
Suspension wise, they are quite firm, but not crashy. I actually fitted Eibach lowering springs to mine, and the ride was still perfectly acceptable.
They don't have a strut brace as standard- I didnt feel the need to fit one. I found the handling balance to be pretty good. It was throttle adjustable, with hardly any understeer.

We had a 2.0 SE 2003 and the ride was shockingly bad, as in crashy over bumps/potholes I would think you will need better shocks and springs to get rid of this but no idea on where from. Good value cars and seem quite well built my one was over 120k miles but seemed fine.

Mate of mine has a 2005 2.0 in Silver too. Had it at 3 years old with 38k and he's just hit 128k. All it's ever needed is consumables which in the main he has changed himself. It's very rough around the edges now, plenty of scuffs and rust has bubbled up in the leading edge of the bonnet but it still feels pretty solid and the engine is still strong.

I keep asking him when he will get something new but he rightly points out that it's serving him well, although his fuel consumption isn't that good on it.

Just to add to the above two posts, my V6 was as strong as an ox. Nothing went wrong in the two years I owned it (from 77k to over 105k). Once warmed, it used to get punished regularly! smile

Can't help I'm afraid but there isn't much online activity for Hyundai, given how many there are. I'm trying to find out which other model's wheels will fit my wife's IX35. Given how many you see on the roads you'd think there'd be some good forums out there but I can't find any where anyone will reply to my questions!

I once went insane and had one of these. It was the most miserable car that I have ever owned. Nothing went wrong with it, but it was just so gutless and naff. I shudder to recall it. Sorry, OP, hope you enjoy yours!

I think the 2.0SE is the pick of the bunch imo. V6 really isn't worth it.

Watch out for wear on the shoddy leather seats, on the bolsters, a weak point on the interior. Hopefully a well looked after one won't have this problem.

My mum has a 55 plate 2.0 SE and it looks fantastic. Inside you sit quite low so feels pretty sporty! The engine sounds quite rough when revved and the plastics inside are hard and shiny but it's been fantastically reliable and you can pick them up for so cheap now! Definitely worth getting one.

I've got a '98 Hyundai Coupe F2, which I've owned for 14 years. The F2 has got the 2.0 engine and has the the first shape bodyshell, (the'96 to '99 one, the one that looks like it has melted). But mechanically very similar to your 2.0 SE.

It's been very reliable, currently doing 300 miles a week on the commute. It's great turning up in the office car park in an obscure Korean Special Edition, ...into a sea of silver BMW's and Audis.

In answer to one of your questions, none of the models ever had strut braces as standard. I've fitted braces front and rear to mine, I noticed and improvement when I fitted them (about 12 years ago!), better turn in, slightly sharper.

I did have a go of one of the later Hyundai Coupes, another 2.0, which I found slighty slower and not as nimble as mine. Probably because the power is the same but the body weighs a lot more. However the later ones are definitely more comfortable and refined.

If a V6 Alfa ever met a V6 Hyundai coming the other way it would be like matter and anti matter and the universe would explode.

Thanks for your replies. some pics above. I love it. I spent all day yesterday washing and waxing it, wheels will be refurbished and its got one brand new yokohama tyre, all the others are new but different. Will order 3 new yokohamas to match the other. Taking me a while to get used to the clutch but it corners like an mx5 and is low seated so Im happy and comfy. Never had a car with cruise control ever, so that will be something new to try.

This is not really a problem, my mx5 leathers were not that thick, but I used autoglym conditioner and cleaner for six years, and made sure i didnt hit the bolster or wear studded jeans, so was easy to keep good.

Like I said, as long as it's been looked after the seats will be fine. They're also prone to the leather going a bit 'baggy' where your bum goes....Other than that - it's a decent interior imo.

I had a 2.0SE in Silver from new in 2004.

Very nice car, no problems, sold it after a couple of years, very good MPG and performance, glad I did not get the V6, because by all accounts they are hardly any faster and use a lot more fuel.

Only issue was very poor headroom for tall people in the back.

Hope you enjoy it....smile

The V6 engine was very disappointing. It didn't pull very hard, didn't even sound very good, and was just meh overall. The comparison with something like a 2.5 or 3.0 Busso doesn't bear mentioning. Maybe a revvy 2 litre 4 pot would be a lot better.
