The V6 engine was very disappointing. It didn't pull very hard, didn't even sound very good, and was just meh overall. The comparison with something like a 2.5 or 3.0 Busso doesn't bear mentioning. Maybe a revvy 2 litre 4 pot would be a lot better.
I wouldn't quite go that far! I think they sound alright...http://youtu.be/Anaewj8oFYc
I might be biased though
In respect of the 2.0 vs V6, yes, there is a trade off in economy, but they sound so much better. In fact, there's no comparison in sound!!

I've got a '98 Hyundai Coupe F2, which I've owned for 14 years. The F2 has got the 2.0 engine and has the the first shape bodyshell, (the'96 to '99 one, the one that looks like it has melted). But mechanically very similar to your 2.0 SE.
It's been very reliable, currently doing 300 miles a week on the commute. It's great turning up in the office car park in an obscure Korean Special Edition, ...into a sea of silver BMW's and Audis.
In answer to one of your questions, none of the models ever had strut braces as standard. I've fitted braces front and rear to mine, I noticed and improvement when I fitted them (about 12 years ago!), better turn in, slightly sharper.
I did have a go of one of the later Hyundai Coupes, another 2.0, which I found slighty slower and not as nimble as mine. Probably because the power is the same but the body weighs a lot more. However the later ones are definitely more comfortable and refined.
I had a silver F2> Loved it at the time. The cruise control packed in, just before I got a new car - other than that, very reliable. The only other problem I had was when I hit a pot hole at night and it buckled two of the multi-spoke F2 alloys. It was a bugger trying to source replacements as Hyundai stopped making them. SE wheels were available a plenty which was even more annoying. It's been very reliable, currently doing 300 miles a week on the commute.
