Teeny update - I've now been partially paid out.

Turns out the cost of repair was far too uneconomical in the eyes of my insurers so the Allroad has been written off. I was tempted to buy back the vehicle but according to the inspector the NSR axle that took the brunt of the van's force bent quite badly, ruining the driveshaft, hub and bushing. I suspect there could be further damage sustained to the rear differential so in terms of putting it back together it could well be more costly and time-consuming than I'm prepared for financially. Also I'd have had to get it to a body shop to sort the doors, skirts and bumper, which will no doubt cost at least several hundred pounds.

I'm absolutely gutted as I searched long and hard for a relatively low mileage example, with Recaros + sunroof, and the condition was lovely in and out. That said, I'm glad I wasn't on my fat wheels when I had the accident, and with the remaining fixes to deal with it could be a blessing in disguise.

To sum up; the Allroad has been awesome. I really miss its comfort and capability, and now that I'm carless I'm waiting for the remaining settlement funds to arrive before making my next purchase. On the shortlist:

- C5 Allroad (what else can I replace mine with, really!?)
- B5 S4 (getting on a bit now, lots of high milers / thrashed / modded examples)
- B7 S4 (would be my first V8, and N/A in a while, and a more modern option)
- C6 Allroad (not a fan of diesels so will look for the 3.2 N/A)
- ??

Hopefully I will soon be back in an Audi product soon - watch this space!

Thanks for reading smile

It's a real shame when ownership comes to an end because of some dumb st that we have to share the roads with!!

Go for a good B5 S4 next, I can't fault mine.

Amazing car

Tell me about it! Still waiting for a full settlement as I suspect the liable party is playing hardball, so this could still take months to conclude frown

The B5 chassis is one of my all time favourites, but they're getting on a bit now and I'm struggling to justify excessive spend on a low miler when I could probably get myself another Allroad for about half the outlay - they really are the cheaper (and fatter) alternative.

I've also looked at B6 S4's as I have been wanting to scratch the V8 itch for some time.. however I still have to wait to find out the verdict from my insurers so it's really anyone's guess what I'll be in next!

I would have taken the interior off your hands, such a shame the car is no more. I am working my way through odd jobs on mine, really liking it so far, even if it's the diesel.
