Running rough - may need a fuel system flush amongst other things.

Nice to see you back in a Lotus G

They always did look spiffing in Black 'n' Gold

I did have a Lotus shaped hole in my bits. Sense dictates that I buy a late Excel but I cannot resist Elites and Eclats.

My mech is checking this heap out today, and making a to do list. Yesterday I stupidly left the car running in the yard while I went and did a chore. It idles fast and got too hot. Ooops, I hope I haven't done further knackerage upon it.

Do you ever see a future BV where you post on here 'My mechanics at a loss with what to do with himself today, the entire fleet is running like clockwork'?

If I reduce the fleet to modern Royal Navy size (ie: my Rover SD1 and no others), then, yes.

Otherwise:-

Lord Finchley tried to mend the Electric Light
Himself. It struck him dead: And serve him right!
It is the business of the wealthy man
To give employment to the artisan.

Ha ha, that's great!

I have recently upgraded to two cars (making the family fleet 3 in total) but they are all pretty modern and bland compared with your harem. I'm merely an automotive Skywalker to your Wan Kenobi.

Mech reports :-

"Black Lotus - Very nice! Got battery in it from Dolly boot. Started up fine after coolant & deionised water added (3.5L total). Ran up to full temp, let coolant bleed air out. Sound defo like fuel setup needed & carb filters need checking etc. Can do next visit. Checked indicators.
> Hazards do work so it's probably a relay or wiring/switch issue, again can carry on next week, and also with pop up lights. Headlamps work so again probably a wiring issue."

Arse. Two of the four almost new Falkens are going down. Maybe slow punctures, but maybe some rim or valve problems. Hey ho!

Coolant leak fixed, lights fixed, indicators need fixing, and rough running needs looking at.

If there is nothing obvious in the tyre itself then corrosion of the bead area most likely I would think.

Love this, especially in black and gold. A mate of mine had a rusty JPS "Crapper" when we were lads which was very cool!

Every time this thread pops up I'm back off to look at manky Lotus projects on ebay et al. nono

Had similar air loss on the Elise. Took it to tyre shop, they removed tyre, wire brushed inside of rim lip and reseated tyre. All good now.

Mechanic reports -

Tightened battery terminals as lights working fine now.

Adjusted NSF light beam to allow for slightly low light pod.

Checked coolant level & electric fan operation, all working, no apparent leaks.

Checked Timing - runs bang on 10ºBTDC to spec.

Carb float covers removed & filters checked, spotless inside, no dirt.

Checked carb balancing, found back carb to be way out so only front two cylinders firing at idle speed. Idle way too high & fluctuating. Started from scratch & balanced carbs. Reset idle speed & adjusted mixture to give lean best idle. Engine sounds much better now, drove in reverse to gate then back in 1st gear to test response, feels very smooth now.

Good to see these updates, your mech sounds like a keeper.

I imagine down to the gate and back at your country pile is about a mile round trip, isn't it?

Ha! I wish! But at least I have a gravel drive for maximum PH points.

Best mech I have ever found.
