Skoda Octavia vRS 2014

So last Monday I waved goodbye to my beloved vRS hatchback after 96,000 faultless miles. It nearly ended it tears before it began after a suicidal brick made an escape from a lorry on the M5 and wiped out the radiator, grill and headlight. That was 200 miles in.....
However, I grew to love the vRS. It's looks weren't as sculptered as the new one but nevertheless with a set of Eibachs fitted and a colour coded grill it certainly looked impressive.
Whilst my colleagues have dived into Audi, Mercedes and BMW brochures I also had a hankering for another one. First pictures of the 'new' Octavia looked poor and almost weak next to the old model. I toyed with a few cars until one evening whilst looking at some pictures on the internet (ahem....) I came across this one.
At last, I thought. A new vRS! She will be mine....
Seven months passed and and after going back to my bookmarked image of the vRS above she finally arrived. True, like the photo editer in the picture above I've had to tweak it slightly. In come some subtle tints and a set of Eiback springs, out goes the 4 x 4 look...
The car itself? It's impressive. I'm luckily not to be one of those Octavia drivers who have a constant felling of pressure in the ears and even though it's lowered and on 19" wheels I promise the ride is no harder than my last vRS.
The inside of the car is a slight step back if I'm honest. The plastics feel, well, very plastic and the seats whilst look impressive seem a notch down on the old model.
However from the outside the car is a winner. Whereas the old car looked like its nose had melted this one looks like it's about to drop 200kg over Syria. It's certainly a step up in design and quality.
So finally I get to delete one of my bookmarked internet pages. After all, like all internet fantasies it's never as good as the real thing...

I'm a week into VRS ownership, mine is identical to your old one with the 2.0 TSI engine. 7 years driving diesels and my god it's good to be back in a petrol engine car again.
How does the new one stack up performance wise against your old one? I find mine a bit too quiet when giving it the beans, but the engine is great! I sat in the new one when I picked mine up and echo what you say about the seats, they didn't feel nearly as comfy as mine.
The new estate looks fantastic, especially in the only colour to have.. race blue.

Had a first gen Mk2 2.0T which I've mentioned before and is probably my favourite shape of them all. Would have another but I'd have the estate now I have two dogs and a child.
I remember reading evo when they tested the mk1 in a test of sub £30k cars. They said that it's a pity the VRS wasn't a 4x4 and I guess the same could be true of the MK2 and now the new one. vRS4 estate anyone?

Very nice! I had one of the first ones in the country from Sept - November 2013 as a company car when I was working at VWG in MK. I tried most of the VWG ranges and that Octavia was one of my favourite all rounders. I came to it from a 2.0 TFSI TT with the older version of the same engine as the Octy, and the vRS's version had way more mid-range grunt than the TT. Every time I opened the boot I burst out laughing at the comical size! Just wished I got to keep it a bit longer. It felt really planted at Autobahn speeds too – the only real fly in the ointment was its ability to understeer earlier than expected in the wet, but what do you expect of such a huge car!
