2006 Porsche 987 Cayman 3.4 S Bore Score Edition
Discussion
Thanks, interestingly I was flicking through a Porsche magazine at Waterloo last night and came across an article on your car in there! Interesting comments about the wheels, I also think that 17’s also look better, giving a more classic look as well as no doubt riding better. Cheaper tyres are also a bonus. Will be good to hear what you plan on doing with the suspension. Have you made any changes to the exhaust. I think 17’s, carnewal and a thorough suspension refresh and geo will be first on my list when I eventually get one!

People are fools, that's a bargain. Small wheels all the way.
I went out in a friends new Cayman S recently and it was fantastic but I couldn't help thinking it would be even better in something smaller than the 20"(!?) wheels it was wearing.
It's been happening for years. I remember one of the first E46 M3 reviews which spoke highly of the smaller rims that nobody wanted. Blame modern day culture and people who buy cars as accessories rather than dynamic implements. It is a bit weird that it is the rears going off so quickly unless you are doing lots of full bore acceleration from very low speeds and/or getting the back end out under throttle...i.e. like a drunk kid in wellies.Normal fastish driving seems to wear the rears more quickly than the fronts, but not dramatically so (maybe the rears get down to 3 when the fronts are on 4.5).
I'm onto you
Take a look at this thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/GASSING/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Some tyre places will do a free geo check, that's what I'd be doing first.

I do hanker after a Cayman but I just can't get my head around the engine issues, it's such a mine field and it looks like even if you buy from an OPC you could face some wrangling should the worst happen. Fantastic car and the prices are sorely tempting. Do I feel lucky though!
Just do it. From an OPC. With full warranty. Porsche are now offering up to 15 years warranty now, so scratch the itch while you can.Or buy a Boxster with the 3.2 engine, and don't worry about bore scoring.
