Stunning looking car and what a noise they make.
The colour coded centre console makes a big difference to the cabin. My old Mk1 had it from the factory along with leather to dash top and aircon. The only options needed in my view.
I had to sell it last August. Gutted. I managed to stop crying in time to enjoy Xmas, just. wink

Use it and enjoy it. They won't make another car like it again. thumbup

Jack @ Royal covered my BMW 650 steering wheel with Nappa leather and added extra padding at my request as I found the original wheel was very uncomfortable after a couple of hours. The wheel was recovered 3 years / 75k miles ago. Wheel still looks and feels as good as the day I collected it. No connection with Jack, just a happy customer.

same as GF15. very happy customer and no connection with Jack. done a great job on the wheel and gearlever.

what colour was your mk1 marky? was it a club sport or comfort?

mine is a comfort originally but the buckets, harnesses and half cage were added later.

I might get some sports headers but not sure they will make much difference to power. see how I get on with the filter and rear air ram duct.

lovely car!!

The work on the exhaust was absolutely terrible, fit looks good but the welding was shocking, that has no place being on a GT3 imo..... Other than that i love the car.

and finally to today....

centre console and seat eyelets for the harnesses done in guards red. really pleased with the outcome and really brings out the changed wheels and gear lever with the red stitching.

have also changed the tyre to some semi slicks which have helped a lot.

the other piece was changing the ARB settings around. was on full hard setting so very harsh on the road. went down 2 on the front and 1 on the rear. feels easier on the road and less crashy. handy if u get caught in the wet too.
Your car is looking great, Jack is currently doing my steering wheel too, should be ready next week.

Please can you tell me who painted your centre console, I've been looking at getting mine painted too (feel free to send details via PM) many thanks Paul

Mine was a Mk1 Clubsport. Same colour as yours. 996 GT3s are best in Guards Red or Speed Yellow. Here's mine on the morning I sold it. weeping

The bucket seats are great aren't they. It's unreal how much difference they make to the feel of the car. We just fitted a pair of genuine CS Nomex ones into my mates fettled C2, along with the Tequipment cage. His car was built buy Cobra Seats as their demo car. It had Cobra Misano recliners and a full alcantara retrim. He's kept all the bits that came out. To be honest I'll probably buy it off him in a year or two. Apart from the lack of the Mezger engine it does a pretty good impression of a GT3 at a third of the cost. It has KW coil overs, Centre Gravity setup, LSD with GT3 internals. Feels very similar in feedback etc it just doesn't have that screamer of a motor. Anyway I'm rambling.

As for tuning I've always prescribed to the "If its not quick enough, buy something else" mantra. I always thought my GT3 was quick enough, your MK2 should be even better. Some people say Wayne Schofield (Chip Wizards) can work wonders on these, but when I spoke to him he said "I wouldn't say to you yes I'll get big gains, as they're already very good. I'd expect to see maybe 12-15hp". I didn't want to violate my ecu either as I'm a fanny like that. You can always load the standard map back in but if anyone plugs a computer in again later they will see an old file stored from the tuned one, even if they may not be able to access it, it will be there.

Exhaust, again I was never bothered. I put some rear boxes on to make it sound a bit deeper at low revs but that was it. Lads in the know on the Porsche forum are Ade (keep it lit) and Henry (slippydiff). I've met them both. Great guys and what they don't know about GT3s isn't worth knowing. They don't post on the Porsche forum very often now, just like myself, as it's over run with knobs these days, bar a handful of people. If you ever need any advice I'm sure they'd be happy to chat via pm though. smile

supercharged will send you a pm. was done by a local painter.

there are some on ebay from time to time as the boxster consoles fit as well with a bit of mucking around.

marky that was a lovely car you had there. you can always come back. Mk1s are really really special now.

yeah the car is way more competent that I am/will ever so best leave it be. have done the exhaust boxes as you can see from the thread and it has that lovely GT3 howl back. filter should help a bit too with breathing.

finally got round to fitting. thank god for bank holidays and good weather ;-)

took about 1 hour to do all four what with getting car on the wooden board to raise it, jack it up, do again but worth it. bearing in mind I am distinctly average with spanners in fact bordering on utter ste...

Front near side:

no duct:

duct added:

(underneath looking up at back of disc)

Rear near side:

Rear Off side/PX

no duct:

for the rear ducts I needed to trim one of the top plastic curves that stick out the most as was catching the wheel. circled in yellow. easy to do as softish plastic and done with a new Stanley knife:

View of front ducts from under the car:

from rear of car - just see the front ducts as lowest point of car, hanging down:

rear caliper duct from rear of car:

hope that helps and will see how I get on with them.

BMC panel filter fitted. seems to breathe a little better.

popped up to Design 911 to get the carbon rear air ram duct. now that is a ruddy DANGEROUS place to visit and your wallet winces as you walk in ;-) nearly walked out with a set of equal length headers and 200 cell cats. paint first, paint first!!!

what it would look like on the car:

I would love to keep it carbon but its a different effect to the Manthey RS spoiler I have so best option is to paint Guard Red so it blends in.

need to get it bolted and fixed in next.

and so it begins....

the old girl went in a couple of weeks ago and progress has been good. I expect the prep and paint to take around 4-5 weeks. I want them to take their time and they have really gone to town with getting all the chips, dings and other bits sorted out.

its currently in primer and settling this week before more blocking and flatting and then paint . staying with guard red.

no rush as its a weekend car and am sure it will come out looking the part.

the mirrors will be red as well as the RS rear air ram duct.

ok so progress on the paint front....

shell has been done as well as the doors, bonnet, front and rear bumper. just a few other bits to go. hoping end of week once trim and windows are all back on.

its a deeper red than I had before and I guess 10 year old paint has oxidised and changed colour.

picked up the old girl after what was a long 5.5 weeks wait but well worth it. the paintwork is just superb and its like glass. massive thanks to Manor Coachworks in Erith and Scotts Performance in Dartford who have looked after her (and many of my other cars)

RS style black decal delete
GT3 RS rear air ram duct added and painted
Mirrors painted in red
GT3 kick plates added as were missing?
new clips in the roof rails as were broken
loads of other things done I am sure!!

very happy with the results.

new windscreen goes in next Tuesday.

That is one beautiful car!

I would love a 996 GT3, proper drivers Porsche.

Will it be more of a garage queen now or used as it should?

oh yeah use it as it should be....euro trips/le mans/the ring/track days.

its got 70k miles on it not 7k so far from being a garage queen!

some of these cars with 1k-10k miles on them I just find it criminal and bonkers. well not criminal as such just more of a waste of a great car. not using them for long periods is actually not that good for them!
