Alfa Giulietta 1.6JTDM Sportiva
Discussion
Having owned a Giulietta 2.0 JTDM TCT for 21 months and 35,000 miles. I've decided to change for a number of reasons but primarily I'd had some issues with the semi auto transmission and with the warranty about to expire I didn't fancy owning the car outside of warranty as any potential bills would be mine. I would add 2 of my friends also own Giuliettas fitted with the TCT box and had no issues at all.
So, being an Alfanut through and through I never considered changing to another brand (I know I'm certifiable!). I didn't fancy another TCT because it would be too samey and I found the 2.0 manuals I'd previously driven unpleasant because the clutch was very heavy.
I was encouraged by friend to give the 1.6 a go. My concern was the car would feel underpowered coming from a 2.0. I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. The 1.6 JTDM-2 16v is an excellent unit developing 105 bhp (320nm). It feels quieter and more refined than the 2.0, the cas handling has benefited from the weight reduction (the engine not the driver) and the economy is excellent. I managed 41.5mpg as an average over the period I owned the 2.0. After day one of ownership of the 1.6 my overall average is 51.3 and at one stage I had it up to 60.2.
Anyway, enough of the boring stuff.
The car is finished in Etna Black, with heated black leather and fitted with 18" Cloverleaf Turbine Wheels. It's far from the most exciting car that'll ever be posted here but it's a very present place to spend the daily commute.
