Well I went to the pub frown

It appears a 2" full lift kit with all the necessaries from Island 4x4 is on the way! Drinking gets expensive, I work it to be around £300 a pint!!!
hehe

Bargain!
It's a great looking thing.

Sorry if you posted it before, but what's the purpose of the diagonally strung wires at the front, please?

Bargain, tell me about it. Wasn't even meant to buy a car, let alone everything else. The OH complains I'm raiding the puppy fund!

The wires are known as Bush Cables. When your offroading, especially laning, it will brush all the bushes, and overgrowth up and over the roof, rather than letting it hit the windscreen

And when you're onroading they cheese-wire anyone you crash into neatly in half to make stitching them back together easier.

Silly sods shouldn't stand in front of cars then should they?

My thought too Hooli, however as was pointed out in the LR Forum, they are illegal on the road. Its a matter of 4 circlips, and i'll take them on and off as to when its on the road, purely to save any undue fuss from the law

I think it's the one I've seen on eBay then. A picture of a light green disco?
Strange question but does it make any more noise?

I don't think this was pictured on a Disco, but yer they are pretty much the same. Safari Style.

Ive changed for a decent panel filter, and when the window is down, I can hear the intake a bit better, but its not a huge amount extra noise to be fair. Don't notice with the window shut, plus the mud tyres make enough now.

Just waiting for my straight through Cat delete and centre box delete to arrive, then Ill have noise

I deleted the centre box (no cat) from my V8 90 and despite me wanting the full V8 sound experience, it was a tad OTT, with only a small back box, so it's currently back on while I look for another option. Overrun in particular was, I think, likely to get me a tug if the BiB were following.

I never got any hassle off plod when I run them on my Disco years ago. I took them off in the end as I removed the roof rack & started to spend more time in Wales & less time in places with trees.

I think the answer is probably some sort of muffler, rather than a silencer, ie something straight-through but with some sort of packing in it. I have just been digging around outside, I have the makings of something like that so when I get a chance I'll weld something together and try it (the trouble with the Defender is that the inlet and outlet of the centrebox are staggered - same for you? - so I can't just buy a cherry bomb or similar).

Meh, if it's anything like when we straight pipe the Chimaeras (same sort of engine) then it's only annoying if it drones, the actual volume isn't that loud. You'll definitely be alright if you keep the backbox on it, do a youtube search as there's all different combinations of straight/decat/backbox videos on there.

I like this one biggrinhttp://youtu.be/8AP4cAj7i6Y?t=10s

Well this weekend's plan was to fit the lift kit, however, things go busy, DIY ensured, then yesterday the vehicle wouldn't start after a visit to halfrauds. It knows how st the place is, but I needed wipers.

Found out that the rubber seal on the LPG spacer, next to the intake had perished, and split frown

So, into Halfrauds I go, found the exact stuff I needed on the shelf, at some ridiculous cost, but I needed it, would have been sat doing nothing otherwise. Fitted it in the carpark, and happy days, a Disco that runs better than before. So it must have been holey for a while.

Tonight, after work, its going on the ramps. Hopefully 4 hours will see the whole suspension changed, wishful thinking maybe. If not, rear tonight, front tomorrow. But Ive persuaded the techies to leave behind an air gun, so should make life a bit easier!

Pics later....

This is the one of the first modifications I want to do to ours when its on the road, been looking at some cheap cutouts on ebay so that I can easily switch between silence and violence depending on the mood etc

The lift is done, just didn't have tie to upload when I got home last night. Had to cut the front shocks off, they were deader than dead!

Im so tempted to do it, I had the angle grinder in my hand last night, and was spying the backbox!! So tempting

I didn't notice much of a difference removing the backbox, hardly anything at all. Which reminds me, I need to make a side exit!
