Correct, Pininfarina was only involved with the Coupe version of the 406. Previously, they had done designwork for various other models, in hatchback, saloon, coupe/cabriolet versions.

The build code (located on the sticker on the driver's side door or door frame) can be decyphered to tell you where your particular 406 was built. The 406 Coupe was designed and built by Pininfarina, making it one of the first Peugeot models to be manufactured outside of France. The build code on all Coupes includes the code U5, which tells you it was made at Pininfarina's factory in San Giorgio Canavese, Italy. Most of the other 406 models were built at Peugeot's factory at Sochaux.

There appears to be a lot of the V6's breaking on eBay? Any reason why so, as I'm hoping there isnt a huge pitfall that Ive fallen myself into by just purchasing one off the first picture in this thread. It rekindled my love for them, bstards!

I love those! My granddad bought one when they were just brought out, in 1998!

I turned 18 in 2001 and as soon as i got my licence i was allowed out in it, it got plently of looks back then as it was rare sight on the roads.

Not quite a Ferrari though... wink

My mum took it over when he stopped driving, and she only sold it last year as she wanted something smaller, so it's lasted a good 16 years from new!

Parked on the street came back to find it like this with bits of rear car light strewn across the road. No note or idea as to what happened. Assume someone has reversed into it and then driven off.

I knew it.

Any CCTV? Knock on a few doors.

A real shame that.

"thebraketester" - cheers for offer. At the mo I'm not sure it's worth it. Even thinking of using it as a donor car and buying anther coupe.

Turquoise" - outside my house no cctv unfortunately

"Cologne" - smart looking 406 and definitely the sensible one fuel wise

Chris - sorry to hear about yours. I take it there's nothing known about the parasite that clobbered it ?

Thats a shame, nice car. No clues as to the car that hit it - any paint transfer, or identifying marks on any plastic parts left at the scene?

Any neighbours cars that are normally parked around yours suspiciously missing recently?

Looking at the height of the deepest damage I would say that was done by a truck of some sort.

Utterly unacceptable that some animal would smash up your car and leave without providing their details.

It's happened to me, twice - once with my old 406 saloon (written off) and once just last week with my Coupe - though nowhere near the damage you've had; mine just has a scratch on the front bumper (which was recently repaired and resprayed after someone at work drove into it - she did leave her details though).

If you haven't already, check out the Peugeot 406 Coupe Club forums; there's a section there for Coupes for sale - normally the club members will look after their cars better than most other people do, and you will end up with one that requires very little in the way of TLC. Also, there's a possibility that someone there might want to rescue your car, so if you do sell it, try selling it there.

Good luck.
