E46 M3 fast road - track car
Discussion
Don't think I'll be making the BMW show, Will be attending the Kop hill climb this weekend though.
Managed to get the car on a weigh bridge today, was a little more than I expected but then driving away it twigged to me that its nay on 200kg lighter than stock! Was 1350kg worked back to a empty fuel tank (and no dog)

1350 gives it a pretty healthy power / weight ratio. Managed to get the car on a weigh bridge today, was a little more than I expected but then driving away it twigged to me that its nay on 200kg lighter than stock! Was 1350kg worked back to a empty fuel tank (and no dog)
Few little parts in yesterday
Hack Engineering sourced Grant and I some purple tag steering rack
Pretty easy to swap over as all mounts and pipes match
With the solid coupler
Also finished off my door cards to make way for cage with door bars, my first experience with fake carbon is a ABS plastic sheet that works a treat as its so flexible and light.
T45 6 point cage with a few extras is booked in the begging of November with JC Weldfab, been a job I've been putting off for a long time now so cannot wait to see the results.
Also attending the Sliverstone PHSS and have booked a track session at 14;10

When along to the PistonHeads Sunday Service at Sliverstone with a few friends and had a couple of track sessions booked.
Car drove better than ever!
Last time I done SS was on KW v3 and to be honest they performed crap! Even with a fettle on the damp settings lead to no improvements. The rear shocks are just too tall so bottomed out straight away, was quicker on budget HSD's.
First dry testing I've had on the Nitron R1's and not a bad word to say about them, handled great. Biggest improvement I noticed was the solid steering coupler and 067 purple tag rack supplied by Hack Engineering , if the car became out of shape a very small amount of adjustment sorted it out.
For once I was suppressed with the NS2R, ran them at a higher pressure, grip was okay and they didn't go off after 20 minutes.
First time I've used a lap timer as well and managed a 1:08 around the national circuit.

Are you planning for a Ring trip in the new year?
I know Carpetsoiler (Sam) is planning one in April and I might time mine to co-en side.
Would be good to have a few E36/46 BMW's in convoy
Looking forward to seeing the cage work, I know the manager at JC from years ago when we went to local car meets.

Haven't planned anything for next year yet. Will need a ring friendly seat to go on, plus one that doesn't give me a numb behind after a hour.I know Carpetsoiler (Sam) is planning one in April and I might time mine to co-en side.

One last thing before the car goes off to JC weldfab tomorrow for its cage.
Brought a Braille battery from Track-tek, had wanted one of these for a while then my sister 1 series needed a new battery so gave her my Bosch S5007 and brought this.
Wanted to make my own light weight battery holder but with limited time and nothing to hand I just chopped up and hole sawed mine
I then used a Hockey puck to fill the void in height to the smaller battery
Plumbed in and already on the CTEK charger.
Easily over 10kg saved here, will help to off set weight of all the T45 tubing thats about to be added.

Getting a few teaser photos from JCweldfab, cage is fully under way.
While the cars away I made use of some spare z3 plates. Only downside to having Nitron coilovers is its a two person job to just fit the rear dampers as its imposable to reach up in the wheel arch and in the boot to bolt them together.

Finally a cage update:
Had a major rush on as picked the car up Saturday morning from JC-weldfab (2 hours away from me) dashboard less and had to get it all back together for a track day at Snetterton 300 the very next day, again over 2 hours away from me.
Was a tall order but I made it! But from rushing I fell victim of not measuring twice and cut once, ended up cutting way too much out the dash to miss A pillar bars and gusseting, will have to change that and do a better job over winter.
The cage itself is a T45 6 point with added rear subframe bracing, the rear section drops down onto the rear turrets giving me the support needed to run true full rear coilovers, and slicks Door bars I wanted to keep fairly low to be ring approved, and being 6'4 with long limbs it just makes life a little easier.
Only painted a few areas as need to strip the interior back down.
Today I gave the M3 another down grade, seeing as only really gets driven to and from a track now the luxury of Bi-xenons headlights are wasted on me. I managed to grab some decent halogen units for £20 as they needed new lens' so I planned to reusing my yellow tinted items and sticking some brand new lens' on the Bi-xenons as a good selling point.
I can now also loose the self levelling units on each wishbone, I pretty much brake them every time I work on the suspension so not a bad thing to bin off.
New lights in and treated it to its first wash in over 3 months
