Good afternoon all,
Following 2 years in a 118D M Sport [company car] the urge to get back into a big petrol engine car simply became too much. Never really did the mileage to justify the tax on fuel and the car it-self, so with those new found savings and a car allowance, man maths dictated I buy something more enjoyable.
In July I promptly bought an E93 330i, which during the summer on a flat road was delightful. However, on the 19" wheels and BMW's laughable M Sport suspension, the daily routine of slowing to an almost stop approaching a speed bump, pot hole, manhole cover, leaf, became unbearable. I spent money on non RFT tyres and suspension, however it was still a royal PITA. I also genuinely feel that while a lot more modern, it lacked the solid feel of my old E46.
The missus has a Z4 so open top fun would still be available. I wanted rear seats, a boot big enough to swallow a couple of sets of clubs [rather than rattling around the back seats of the BMW], a ride that meant I could concentrate on what lay ahead, rather than scanning the road surface immediately ahead of the front wheels.
So, when your managing a steady 23mpg from the BMW, and mileage isn't an issue, it had to big a V8 Jag.
I've learnt that being a 5.0 NA it's somewhat of a rare [undesirable?] model. I bloody love it.
It glides over the worst of South Bucks roads a treat, and the interior truly is a wonderful place to be. The performance is.. Well it's just as you'd imagine. Effortless. Relentless. The noise as the revs build urges you to keep your foot buried, and then you realise you really ought to slow down.
After only a few weeks I'm smitten.. And thankfully a good friend owns a tyre shop.

Yes i think I've read its referred to as Gen III engine.
Same as the R minus the supercharger. The spring rates are supposedly 30% softer too, so despite the 20" wheels it rides very well.
Hopefully after the initial new car hooning i might see the average mpg rise above 15.. Although if I'm honest i don't really care!

Very nice, these look much better than the face lifted cars. One of these days I shall have one.
Have a word! The facelift is light years ahead in looks, especially at the front. That said, either way a lovely car.Although viewing through the worlds largest pair of rose tinted glasses, comparing the two [in pictures] I actually prefer the look of the earlier design, i.e mine

I also prefer the pre-facelift. The facelight lights are very nice in isolation and certainly more modern, but they are out of proprotion with the rest of the car.
Just picked mine up - came from an A6 Avant S-line on 19" rims...which was harsh...I love the Jag, even on 20" rims it is so much better to drive and is more comfy!n209385 said:

Sounds good. I find the seats as well as the suspension in newer Audis are too firm. I think I'd take the Jag over the equivalent MB, Audi, and BMW. I don't have experience of the new C Class however, but I'm not keen on its rear end.
Epic motor.
Working for JLR I can tell you the 5.0 l V8 NA was always very popular amongst the internal staff. It was dropped for the newer 3.0l sc v6. emissions, power, cost etcetc.
Shares quite a lot of the same parts as the 5.0 sc. technically you could convert it but it would be costly. Piston change required.
Having driven both personally I like the v8 NA over the current 3.0sc v6.
