I went to the PHSS at the Vulcan Trust last year and one of the guys turned up in a very nice black one with rear exhaust boxes deleted....it sounded epic as we followed it on the way back hehe

Looks better than the current model imo.

Imagine insurance is a right wallet emptier.

I'll ignore the illegal numberplate as it looks so good
I agree, best looking M5 they made.

Do please explain why you think the numberplate is illegal?

Nice choice.

Also paid £1500 to insure my RX7 at 22, but was worth it to drive the car I wanted.

Never been a fan of wood trim but everything else looks great.

Good choice, it won't loose money if you look after it.

I ran one for about 5 years, longest I ever kept a car !

stroke of the letters on the rear plate looks too bold

Are you for real? Plates are fine. But nevertheless as a matter of course whenever I get a new car I get dealership plates made up if it hasn't got them.

I'd be fuming with some of the quotes on here. getmecoat
Love the car OP. And so young! legend.
I remember years ago when they were relatively new cars I had a bit of a drag race with an e39 M5, I was in my little Lancia, the noise and acceleration from the M5 was staggering. Such an accomplished big car.

I would add to enjoy it and don't become obsessed over getting it mint.

I still can barely feel any difference in the steering with the sport button though. tongue out

I want to get the mechanicals solid, the stone chips and the wheels needing a refurb don't bother me, actually the opposite, it means I'm not afraid to use the car and drive it properly!

I find the steering change most noticeable on a constant radius corner like a motorway off ramp or something, there is a lot more resistance and sense of the wheel trying to self-centre in sport mode.

On another note I can also confirm that the LSD is function correctly, first car I've had with one. It's ummmm... lively in this frosty weather. Me and this car are going to get along just great I can feel it.

Fair play, your much braver than me! Would have loved to go E39 M5/E46 M3 but just couldn't stomach the potential for huge bills so ended up with the car I have. I'm guessing if you look after some classics you must be pretty decent with a spanner? in which case may help to offset any potential big costs.

Congrats anyway, if I were you I wouldn't bother with refurb etc as you'll only kerb it again at some point, enjoy it for what a bargain it is and save the money for petrol!

I was nervous, too but knew if I didn't do it now I never would! Getting for a good price means there is money in the bank. Agree with the wheel refurb, I've never kerbed a wheel yet but nor have I ever refurbed a set. Don't want to tempt fate.

I see you've got a 130i, that was a serious sensible contender on my list, but I knew I'd spend a shed load getting a Quaife in it, suspension bits etc, and also it's a bit small for when I've got 4 in the car. Jolly good fun to drive though, and in the current weather probably a lot quicker than the M5 too.

Don't often reply to most of the posts - more of a long time lurker!

This is a great buy though and as some have said, well done for having the stones to get it done - I didn't realise until the commitments came along (kids, etc) that your age is perfect time for this kind of thing wink

Great colour too.

That's great..

I very nearly bought one a few months back, I looked at a few but my issue was it had to be black which narrowed my options slightly! Found one that was just honest, like yours but never went for it as I really needed an estate car.

I'd wanted one for years but always went for the saloon versions as estates were a lot more rare, but with a Labrador and a new born I really had to stop myself buying that M5 which is a huge same.

Ended up with a 550i Touring though, so can't grumble.!

Absolutely love these, really wanted one earlier this year until all the insurance companies said no due to no RWD experience frown So had to settle with a 530i for the time being.

One thing I would do ASAP is have the lower sill covers and arch liners out and clean out all the crap and make sure there are no nasty rust patches hiding behind them. If it hasn't been done recently you will be shocked at how much crap gets lodged up there. Mine is very straight but I caught a couple of 50p sized blisters forming in the paint due to the damp mud being held against the sill.
