Another few updates over the weekend .

First was to change all x 4 Kumho tyres .

Still some good tread on them .

After lots of reading and with the car being my day to day car I went for a full set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports .

And the tracking done at the same time .

I will look to have a another alignment done soon but this will do for a few weeks .

Also received my rear brace .

Fitting was ok and went in nice and tight .

Then last was to remove my Stillen induction and replace this with a 06 350Z air box .

Stillen unit

Old air box next to 06 air box

The inlet velocity stack on the 06 air box is larger and good for a few more BHP and LB/FT

Old

New

And BMC panel filter to go with the 06 air box

All put in and tightened up .

Crikey! I thought the default rear bracing was 'substantial'. Does that make any noticeable difference?

I will let you know as I have not driven it yet .

My XXL BBK arrived last week From Torqen so I got round to fitting this at the weekend .

First up was to remove the old disc and thought I would so how heavy they are .

STD Rear 322mm disc @ 7.3 Kg

New rear 356mm disc @ 9.0 Kg

Ols vs new .

The Rear disc dust shelled needs to be cut to house the bigger disc .

Rear disc installed .

New rear 6 pot calliper is a bit on the large side .

With street pads .

And installed .

Then on to the front .

Old front disc 324mm @ 9.0 Kg .

New front 356mm @ 9.0 Kg .

Old vs new .

Again the front disc dust shelled needs to be cut to house the bigger disc .

Front disc installed .

New front 8 pot calliper is a monster .

And next to the already large rear 6 pot .

And installed

The rear just fit with a few mm of clearance under the std 18” Rays .

The fronts are even more tight but do just fit .

All done and flushed / bleed with super blue fluid .

Just a small update on the BBK I got from Torqen after a day after bedding the system in .

The great think about the kit is that it has the same feel as my old Brembo set up in as far as when you touch the peddle at slow speeds it does not grab or is too sensitive .

I would say at ¼ to ½ peddle travail the force / stopping power is the same as my Brembo set up with DS2500 ( DS2500 when hot ) pads S/S lines and new discs .

From then on at ¾ the car stops like it has hit a tree and I still have not given them the full on stamp .

I will see how much better they get when fully bedding in .

Good thread, please keep with the updates.

2 questions,
1) why didn't you weigh the calipers?
2) why the induction change for a third time?

First one K & N Typhoon lost power due to the alloy pipe getting too hot . Second one was good but again not as good as the 06 Air box for power and torque . Both the cone types do give a great noise but the manifolds and exhaust now take care of the noise .

Cool - was just interested in the reasons.

Did you weigh the calipers. Curious if there is a reduction in unsprung weight - especially at the rear where the disc is heavier.

I did but had no pic .

The rears were about half a KG more than the 2 pot Brembos .

Surprised you needed to do anything to the dust shells for the BBK, I put K-Sport 8 pot 356mm front and 4 pot 356mm rear on mine and they went straight on. Brakes were fantastic with no fade all day at Spa and the 'Ring once fitted. I went with AD08R's and they coped well with trackdays too despite the weight of the car.

They are quick enough but there are other cars that are quicker at the price but 0-60 in 5.9 and 0-100 in 14.5 is not to bad .

Nearly all don't make the 276 BHP that Nissan said they had ( 250-260 BHP in most of them ) but with a few bolt on breathing mods this brings the power up to around 300 BHP .

And de limited you will see 170 MPH smile

Ok so after 11 years of saying I will go and do the ring I set of on Friday at 2.30 AM full of hope and excitement .

At 2.42 AM it all went t*ts up .

Below is my first experience of my first ring trip ( Next year will be booked this week )

So after checking the car a fair few times over the week leading up to Friday 21/08/15 everything was set new oil and filter new brakes new tyres new clutch etc. .

It was just me and the girlfriend going and we were getting the 5.30 AM ferry from Dover so set off at 2.30 AM .

Around 10 miles in to the trip coming to a roundabout the brake pedal did not feel good and the pedal when all the way to the floor .

We stopped and checked and the system was leaking brake fluid from somewhere AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH .

In the pitch black of night I could not see where it was coming from so we limped the 350Z home .

After a quick look I still could not see anything and then we had to make a choice as to cancel the trip or take the girlfriends Peugeot 207 GTI .

After booking another ferry for 11.50 we set off for the second time and got to dover in time .

The replacement

At dover

Leaving the UK

Arriving at Calais

After looking through my insurance I had to break the news that Lucy would have to do the driving as I was not covered to drive another car outside the UK bar my 350Z only .

After the promises of something expensive as a thank you we set off in France .

After around 74 miles the car was very down on power and was in lime mode and after a quick check it looks like the Turbo is on its last legs AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

We thought we had come this far and after some slow driving and nursing the 207 we finally got to Germany and then the destination .

We checked in to the Hotel and then went to get some dinner .

From the room we could see part of the track .

Dinner was good and the Bitburger beer was even better .

So looking at car hire we were set to book this in the morning .

After waking up and having one belting head and going back to bed I was feeling less sick and we got some breakfast and went to see about the car hire .

We were told that the track was closed all day until 6 PM till 7 PM AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH .

We did see if we could hire but as it was only an hour the place was shut so we just watched for the hour .

So this is as far as I got to the track as we had to leave early to get the replacement ferry .

We got back and I set about seeing what had happened to the brakes .

When the rear brakes have been installed the pipe was fitted in the wrong place and was rubbing on the wheel and split the rear .

All my fault for making a very stupid mistake but there you go .

So after 11 years of saying I would go and do the ring I did but just did not drive on it 

Next year is already planned and I will finally get it done .

This is the saddest thing I have read in a long time frown having gone to the Ring in May I can attest to the length of the journey. It's a shame you couldn't even thumb a ride. I rode shotgun for the entire journey and even that was great! It's such a shame you couldn't put all your hard work to use. I saw several out there (including a supercharged one) and they seem to eat up the track.

Better luck next year and keep up with the updates!

Great thread - some commitment has gone into that car for sure. So many people ruin these cars with tacky wheels, wings and kits so nice to see someone else adopting the OEM+ approach and focusing on the performance bits. Bet she drives very nice now. Well, will do once the brake issue is sorted.

Sorry to hear about your Nurburgring trip, that's gutting. If it makes you feel any better, I am all paid up to go on the Petrolhead Nirvana Alpine South tour on Friday in my 370Z but broke my toe two weeks ago and still can't drive, so looks likely I won't be able to go as my insurer won't insure my missus at all because of her driving record. frown
