Mitsubishi FTO GPX
Discussion
OP the car looks really great. I've always had a soft spot. Now I wonder if anybody could give some advice, I hope that's ok?
I've been offered a Silver 1995 Manual GPX on 100k as a swap for my MR2 turbo. Can anyone offer any input on this swap?
A high revving V6 appeals to me, as does the extra seats, and I have always liked the FTO's looks, but i'm not sure if i'm ready to go back to FWD. Is it a typical behaving FWD car? IE dull/sterile. It also worries me that their value seems to vary wildly in the used market and they seem under appreciated.
Another thing that worries me is that there are better performing FWD coupe's in the same price bracket to be had instead. But the FTO has an appeal that you can't quite put your finger on IMO.

Admittedly I've not driven the FTO... But given the choice I'd sooner stick the the MR2. I've been offered a Silver 1995 Manual GPX on 100k as a swap for my MR2 turbo. Can anyone offer any input on this swap?

Thanks Tremaine, I do love my MR2. The reputation these cars have is deserved. It's such a brilliant car to drive and feels special every time. But it's getting tiresome having only two seats. The problem is it's so damn difficult to find something as interesting/exciting with 4 seats for similar money and similar running costs. So when the guy threw this swap idea up it was nice to be reminded of the FTO. Other cars i've considered:Clio 172 PH1
MG ZS 180 facelift
Impreza Turbo Classic of some sort
Honda Prelude 2.2 Mk5 (some sort of special edition)
R33 GTST (will require some saving)
Integra DC2 (will require some saving)
Celica 190
E36 328i (Be good to get the FE/RWD itch out of the system at the same time as the 6 cylinder itch)
A few others...
These all have reps as brilliant drivers cars and all have their pros and cons, but none appeal like my MR2.

Stuff...
I have to say that over 20 years later the MR2 still looks fantastic - and the gold wheels on yours look awesome too! (I've browsed your flikr several times over the last couple of years and also just saw it in the classifieds!) And, from everything I've read online I think the FTO would be a step down in some respects, in my opinion of course. From the cars you listed, the Clio 172, Classic Impreza and 328 stand out (excluding the cars that would require saving) and are all a blast, I have an E30 320 race car which is so much fun so I imagine the E36 will feel similar.
But as you said they don't appeal like the MR2...
What about an RX-8? I have to push that as I love mine to bits, seats 4 adults, decent amount of power, its fun to work the engine and fantastic handling! 16mpg and high bork factor is a scare, admittedly!
What about something like a Fiat Coupe or the older Celica (Gen 6 GT4 I think)?

back when i waqs active on the FTOOC the only real comparison that was accepted by peope was the Fiat coupe - but the FTO was always seen as better looking and handled far better. From the cars you listed, the Clio 172, Classic Impreza and 328 stand out (excluding the cars that would require saving) and are all a blast, I have an E30 320 race car which is so much fun so I imagine the E36 will feel similar.

especially with a couple of strut braces.
heres my old Version R
Thanks again Tremaine. Glad someone is looking at my flickr haha. I just keep coming to the conclusion that anything with 4 seats and as exciting as these cars comes with a much larger price tag and bork factor, such as the FD rx7 and GTST. I don't have the budget for these if I'm being completely honest.
The RX8 is a funny one for me. It is pretty from some angles, but I've researched them a few times and always decided the performance doesn't justify the mpg. They also seem to be a car for people who want to be seen as petrolheadz but aren't which puts me off them.
I did look in to celica gt4 ownership but tales of repair costs put me off in the end, such as the superstrut suspension. That said I might have a look at the st185 gt4 which should be a bit more wallet friendly.
172's and e36's are both appealing and I think if a good one of either came up once my car sold, I would be very tempted.
As for FTO's, I did a bit of reading last night and it's surprising how much praise they get, often mentioned along with ITR's. And i do think that GPvR looks brilliant. I'm just not sure if I want to own one. Will have to think on it more.
Another car I remembered today is the Prelude 7th gen. I think they still look good and again are praised for their handling. But I am only interested in a Type S which there are none for sale at the moment.
Really sorry to the OP for this mini hijack of the thread.
